I'm planning a trip to Disney for the extended family for June 2011. If I need approximately 400 extra points for AKV to use during this time what use year/month should I try to purchase? I sure would like to get points that are from AKV so I can use the 11 month reservation window. I know I can use points from any resort for the reservation. I'm trying to get the 11 month reservation so I get exactly what we want.

Thanks

I would say think about not only this trip, but any future trips as well. If you think you will be travelling in June every year, then go with a June or April UY. I am fnding that we are travelling all over the place so it is hard to pick just one UY for them. Now we have an Aug UY for our VWL contract but that one is mainly for Christmas or Thanksgiving trips. Our AKV pts are in a June UY because we figured we would be going over the summer with the family. As it turns out our trip was in April. It still worked out, but if you have to cancel, I would have been past my banking deadline and risked losing them if I couldn't rebook before May 31.

OOps, guess I didn't state my question clearly. I am hoping to purchase a one time point transfer from someone to use for my trip in June 2011. I'm not looking for a full DVC contract.

Thanks

The only thing you need to worry about is getting points that are valid for trips in June 2011.

So, at this point, you can really search for any 2010 points. If they are Feb, March, April, or June UY points, then you will need to bank them so they will get valid for June 2011 travel.

If you don't want to have to mess around with banking the transferred points, then search for Aug, Sept, Oct, or Dec 2010 UY points. You could also get Feb, Mar, April or June 2011 UY points as well but the chances of finding those may be more difficult since you need these points by July, 2010.

Just remember, however, you can only do one transfer per UY, per member. With needing 400 points, you may be forced to find both 2010 and 2011 UY points if you can not find anyone with 400 AKV points for transfer.

Good luck!

Oct & Dec 2010 or Feb, March April or June 2011 AKV points would be best so if you had to cancel before 30 days that you could bank them for the following year.

Be aware that if you need tranfers to get enough the UY of the points you are receving are not the deciding factor of when you can make a transfer it is the UY that your contract is in.

Now, this is different than the way it was explained to me. If I call today, in my June 2009 UY, and get a transfer of 2010 UY points (regardless of what month), then that would count as my 2010 UY transfer, not my 2009. If the points are still 2009 UY points, then it would go under my 2009 UY transfer.

Are you saying that it would be considered a 2009 UY transfer since I completed the transfer during my 2009 UY, even though the points would be 2010 UY points?

Thanks!

It allways pays to ask a supervisor since most CMs do not do enough transfers to be well informed. I have checked this with the "higher ups" and they confirm that it is all about the member who is tranfering in and not the points being transfered (as long as they are eligable to make a reservation, and you know that they retain there origonal characteritices except that transfered point can not be borrowed)

If you want that reservation for AKV in 2011 at 11 months out, make sure you get AKVpoints. Any other and they will not be good for AKV at 11 months out.
