This August we are headed to FL for our 3rd Disney trip. We really planned on taking a beach day last trip and just got caught up in the parks and never made it. DH added a condition on this trip; we WILL make it to the ocean. He has never been and really wants to take the kids and just have a down day. It all sounds well and fine until I start thinking of what to bring and where to go??? We are flying down and I feel like I need to pack a separate suit case just for one day at the beach; collapsible cooler, blanket, towels, sand toys---any thoughts on what I really need to bring?? The kids want to collect shells, I want someplace within an 1 to 1 1/2 hours of Disney, DH is dreaming of soft sand beaches.

Please help!

We're going to Disney's Vero Beach resort for our vacation this year. Maybe it's something you'd like to check out :)

You can do a thread search on Vero Beach for information on the resort.

This will be our first trip to VB, but I've heard splendid things about it, and if it's anywhere near as good as Disney's Hilton Head Island resort, we'll be very happy campers.

And whether you go to VB, or choose somewhere else, yes, listen to your DH and GO TO THE BEACH, lol. Have a good trip. :goodvibes

We are going to COco Beach. It is about 45min-1hr from Orlando. If I were you I would buy beach toys and just leave them if you can't take them home on the plane. I would pack some towels and just sit on those.

I agree that Coco Beach would be a easy day trip for WDW. We've done that, and it was a nice break, lots of fun. The Gulf side is may be a little prettier, but that's about 2 hours away. All you need are swim suits, beach towels and drinks.

Thanks for the replies, I checked on Cocoa Beach and there seems to be several oceanfront parks and 3 at Cape Canaveral. Any Suggestions??

We loved the Tarpon Springs area, also. Nice beach, awesome Greek food, great sponges.

We just came back a week ago and we did 2 beach days. Both on the Gulf of Mexico. Waaaayyyy better in my opinion. We went to Clearwater Beach one day. We were there 2yrs ago for our 10yr anniversary and it has changed so much. They are converting alot of hotels to condo's and to be honest I really didn't care as much for it. It was about 1&1/2 hr drive from Disney. Then another day we went to Siesta Key. It was about 1hr 45min or so but totally worth it. It was way more family friendly and had free parking. The water was sooooooooooo much more beautiful and we even found 2 sharks teeth. I will definately be returning there and soon. It was such a beautiful paridise. HTH.
