My oldest wants to go to New Moon for her b-day party. We usually do home parties so I am a bit clueless. I am a planner and have a few months but I love to get ahead start awhile.

Any tips?

8 kids is my max for any party and 3 are mine. :goodvibes I don't want to invite parents but not to be rude either. (any wording help?) With DH's and my car we can transport 12 including both of us driving so having them dropped off at my house is not a problem.

How did you do cake/cupcakes/snacks/soda?

What favors did you give out? TIA

We did a Harry Potter movie party for my DD14 last month.
She also wanted to take them all to dinner after, so we paid for that. We did not buy snacks (though I brought a small fun-size M&M for each girl) since we were having dinner after. I took all the girls home. We no longer do favors at this age, but each girl did get a party hat to wear during dinner and their left-overs from the restaurant (and they all had a lot left over).

In your case, here's what I'd do. Plan the party for a hour before you want to leave for the movie, having the parents drop the kids at your house. Use that time at your home for cake and drinks and present opening. Take the girls to the movie and have their parent pick them up at the movie theater. Since you already fed them before the movie, you won't need to once they are there.

ooh....when is New Moon again?? November right? My DD will be 14 on Nov10th and she'd love that!! :)

Anyways... you'd have to have a pretty big car to take ALL the kids...
But, the PP has the right idea going... have the parents pick them up at the theatre...
Maybe a cake at home first and word the invitiation with tickets only...
I think 'most' parents would give their kids some spending cash for concession.. at least I would :)

I did this a few times with both my boys.

Most theaters have packages that end up being cheaper and easier, getting a little popcorn, soda and candy per person.

I brought a tray of cupcakes in, with no problems, and just passed those out to the kids.

I also had the parents drop them off and pick them up at the theater. Just easier.

Many movie theatres have party packages which include tickets and snacks or sometiems even a party room and pizza for an hour before or after the show and these tend to be pretty reasonably priced so I would start by looking into that.
I would think kids old enough to be oing to New Moon are old enough parents would know this is a dropp off party.

Thanks for the ideas! I knew someone on the Dis would have ideas or done 1 before.

Yes, New Moon is to come out Nov 20th and my DD's 11th b-day is that week.:goodvibes

Dh and I both have big cars so getting them to and from is not problem. They have earplugs right.;) Going to the nearest Movie place is quite a ways off here in Cow country so our ouse is the easiest place for the parents to take the kids if they don't mind us driving.

We don't go to the movies often, maybe 3 times since I had my girls (Love he DVR and BB) , so I never even thoug of them having a movie room or packages. We just moved up here so I will have to call and check that out. Thanks!

I'm so stealing your idea....and the idea of checking into a party room!!

:goodvibes:thumbsup2

Around here, movie theater parties cost close to $25 a person if you are using the party room, so for ds's 10th birthday, I had the kids dropped off at my house, I fed them pizza and cake, we drove them to the movies in 2 minivans, got them each a kid pack as a favor (candy, popcorn, soda), and drove them all home. It cost a lot less than having the official movie party!

For the invite I would just say "meet at our house at 1:00, we will bring the girls home after the movie" or what ever the plan. Hopefully the parents will get that.

Our theater has a "kid pack" that comes with a small popcorn, small pop and a small candy for $4.50, movie tickets are $5 if you go between 4-6PM. I wouldn't worry about cake, gift bags, etc. since you are buying the treats at the movie. I bet your theater has a website to check out information. Another idea is to give each girl a gift card from the theater with $5 on it or whatever you can afford and let them get what they want from the snack counter. If they don't want anything they can keep the gift card to go to a movie in the future.

Yikes that is pricey:scared1: We had a party for DS about a year and a hlf ago and paid $10 per person (I think there was a minimum but it was not too big as he only had five guests plus him and his sister and me and DH). That included the movie, pitchers of soda, 2 slices of pizza each, an ice cream bar each and popcorn. I think DS also got a t-shirt. Since the movie alone would cost $6 a ticket I thought it was worth it to get all the food and they let us bring in a cake.

Not so bad. I charge $20/kid for horseback riding birthday parties.

When my daughter was 13 she had a few friends meet at a pizza place. After we ate pizza I took everyone to the movies. My suv at the time could hold everyone. After the movie I took everyone home.

I did a movie party fro my 15th birthday a few years back. It was only me and two friends and we met at my house and had pizza, my mom dropped us at the movies (She didn't want to see Mean Girls haha) and paid for our tickets/popcorn/soda and then we went back to my house, had cake and my friends spent the night.

PaulaSue, I don't know where you are located in SC PA. But, the MoviE-town movie theater in E-town has a party room. I've never used it myself. But I have seen it.
