Plane tickets

DH has decided that it is not feasible for us to go to DWD. Since it was going to be a very big strain on our budget to the point that we were looking at his 401K, I'm not upset about this. (Other family members are not speaking to us, however, but they don't know the whole story.)

Problem is, we already got plane tickets, nonrefundable, nontransferrable. I suggested we use the tickets and fly to Orlando anyway and not go to Disney instead of wasting that money.

Anyone ever done this before?

Non refundable plane tickets are not literally refundable, but you can exchange them for future tickets (for a fee).

Hope that helps!

Shame on the family members who are pressuring you to spend beyond your means. 401(k) money should not be spent on a vacation. If your DH isn't at least 59 1/2 years old, you'll have to pay a 10% penalty plus ordinary income taxes on the money you withdraw. OUCH!

If you use the tickets and go to Florida anyway, you'll still have to pay for food, lodging, ground transportation and probably some type of entertainment. The only thing you save by not going to Disney is the cost of the park tickets. If it were me, I'd just eat the cost of the tickets and chalk it up to bad judgment and a lesson learned. No sense spending even more that I couldn't afford.

Best wishes -
