I thought I would share, while not necessarily applicable in this case, it may help someone else in the future.
We normally drive to Disney. When my children were younger, we would often leave after work, and stop overnight in Jacksonville. Now that they are older, we tend to drive straight thru.
However, with the RESERVATION system (yes, do not get me started), we have had to “Change” how we "Do Disney."
Since you can make reservations from your first day thru your last day, we will often stay off-site for a night before our “Disney Vacation” begins. Think of a three day weekend, we may drive down and stay at a Hampton Inn Friday night, then switch to our DVC for Saturday and Sunday nights. This allows us to make reservations for Saturday, Sunday and Monday, and still save our points since we are only using them for two nights. In that scenario, we tend to hit an early opening park on Monday (like AK), stay until lunch, and then hit the road. An 8 hour ride will get us back home in the early evening.
It also does not hurt that I am a Hilton Diamond member, so, I tend to get a discount, and I have a fair amount of points that I can use for a free room. Although, I can say I am paying over twice as much as I paid for a hotel room in July of 2021, and three times as much as in 2020 ($211 a night vs. 68 a night in July 2020). Exact same Hilton branded hotel.
Hotel rates in the area are now quite high, so the $240 at CR may really be the way to go.
