Plan Ahead with Lightning Lane Entry at Walt Disney World Starting July 24

Our 6:10 Big Thunder already turned into a multi-experience pass that we will use for Jingle Cruise. And we grabbed Space Mountain for 9:40pm.

Odd since BTMR is back open with only a 15 minute wait. And MK is open until 11 PM.

Tomorrow is my day to choose LLMP. When I go on the app, and click a date, it asks for which park, but doesn't offer the park hopper option. Is this normal? I have updated the app. Will I get that option once I choose a park and my party is eligible tomorrow?

TIA!

You no longer need to purchase a hopper. Once you purchase LLMP you can book 3 LL's at that park. Once you tap into your first LL you are eligible to book a new LL at any park, any tier. You will also be able to modify your remaining 2 LLs to any tier, any park.

The separate Park Hopper version of Genie+ is gone.

Now you just pay for the park you want to use your LLMP selections in and once you tap into your first LLMP selection, Tiers are unlocked as well as Multi Park selection if you have a park hopper ticket entitlement.

You can even change your initial park selection up to the time you enter the park. Yes if you change your initial LLMP park you will need to change your upto 3 initial LLMP selections. If you change to a cheaper LLMP Park selection you don't get a refund of the difference in price. If you switch to a higher priced LLMP Park selection then the MDE app will prompt you to pay the difference in price.

ETA: clarify the Genie+ Park Hopper... and more details on changing your LLMP park selection before entering the park...

You still need to have purchased the park ticket including the park hopper feature…

Yes but OP was not asking about park tickets, they were specifically asking about purchasing a LLMP with the park hopper option which is why my answer is still correct - these do not exist. Any LLMP can be used in multiple parks as long as the first attraction they tap into is in the park that the LLMP was purchased for.

The thread by name is specifically about LLMP. Anyone who is looking to use LLMP at multiple parks would already have a park hopper ticket.

After being in the parks from 11/28-12/3, if you told me nothing has changed since the Genie+ days, I'd believe it. We've done post-Thanksgiving a few times now and it's always a great time to go. We always start with Epcot/AK as those are quieter parks and leave MK/HS for later in the trip as the Thanksgiving crowds are gone by then. Especially the last few days, there were so few people in the LLs. I honestly forgot LLPP was a thing, and would be curious if people who bought it this past week felt it was worth aside from maybe MK on the non-party days. I overheard lots of conversations in the LLs but no one seemed to be using LLPP as everyone was talking about booking times or how satisfied they were that they got value since they did more than the allotted 3 passes. Everyone seemed really happy about LLMP availability overall.

MK on party days proved to be wonderful as always, on Sunday and Tuesday many rides were walk on (or close to it) for a good chunk of the day, Space Mountain had a 5 minute wait from like 2-4pm yesterday (which also happened on the same day last year during our trip) even with Tron being down during that time. We made lots of use of strategically booking LLs for rides that were down to get MEPs, in fact we ended nearly every day with MEPs we didn't even end up using. I loved sleeping in until 9 and booking things I expected to have downtime for the morning so we often started with at least one MEP going into the parks. I had good luck modifying LLs the night before for rides where I got a later time at the 7 day mark than I had hoped for.

Refreshing was maybe not quite as fruitful as it was in the Genie+ days, but cancellations were still plentiful. I had no trouble refreshing for every single ride we wanted at the time we wanted. It was great not having to deal with the 120 minute rule and so much easier just knowing to grab a new pass every time you ride something. I actually had to fight the urge not to just book something as a placeholder  I missed stacking for evenings but had no trouble picking up rides as we went.

Park hopping is how I feel I get good value out of LLMP, I am guessing we used at least 10 LLs every day and we could have used more if we wanted to.

I did early January the past few years due to coming down early for Marathon weekend and those crowds are 10000x worse than Thanksgiving day and after. Like, long lines for food and bathrooms. Heck, I didn't wait for food at all this trip. We were wondering if people were eating in the parks at all this past week, there were so few lines. Didn't have to fight to find seating anywhere...perhaps the weather scared away locals? :rotfl2:

Now, one thing I didn't like was how early LLSP sells out. I rarely will pay for it given how often I go, but you can no longer decide day of if you want to get a Tron LLSP for example. Also, I'm not keen on having to decide so early on whether I want to purchase LLMP for my upcoming marathon weekend trip. I usually play those days by ear and will have to make a call this time.

At Hollywood yesterday, we got every ride Lightning Lane easily.

Also rope-dropped Rise and were out of that ride by around 8:30am, which was the official start of early entry.

That gave us time for Smugglers before heading over to Star Tours to scan our first Lightning Lane and unlock another Tier 1 selection.

Pre-booked 7 days ahead:
1. Star Tours
2. Toy Story Mania
3. Slinky

Next:
- Rockin
- Mickey & Minnie’s
- Smugglers
- Indiana (just because)
- Tower
- Alien Saucers

Also hit Muppets — will miss that classic.

Edit to add: Hollywood did not feel super busy yesterday. Only bigtime congestion was Toy Story Land, as you’d expect.

We hopped briefly over to Epcot to grab a souvenir, and World showcase was packed. Glad it wasn’t an Epcot day for us.

Do I have to have a park reservation for the park I want lightning lanes for? I want to go to AK in the morning and use lightning lanes at MK at night. Do I need to make an MK park reservation then to book lightning lanes and then just change my reservation after they are booked?

We have annual pass that still needs park reservations.

Yes

Just to add some additional detail to the quick answer from @scrappinginontario relating to a AP ticket holder restriction.

Yes. If you don't make a park reservation for the park you want to purchase your initial LLMP selections, you will only see and are able to make reservations for times after 2 PM since you are an AP ticket holder. This rule also applies to guests with un-dated tickets.

In you case, if you plan to go to AK in the morning you need a park reservation for AK to enter before 2 PM. Once you enter your first park of the day you are able to hop to any other park without a park reservation.

Note: AP ticket holder are able to enter any park after 2 PM without a park reservation with 1 exception. Park reservation are required for MK on Saturday & Sunday to enter at any time if you are a AP ticket holder.

ETA: add note about Saturday / Sunday restriction at MK. Thanks @scrappinginontario

Thank you! So it sounds like I should make my reservation for my morning park and I can still make evening lightning lanes at the 2nd park after 2:00pm no matter what.

What makes it more difficult is I’m going on New Years Eve when it might be at capacity. So if I have a park reservation at AK for the morning and lightning lane pre-booked at MK for the evening, will I definitely be able to get in do you think?

Also, I’m clarifying that let’s say we decide not to go to AK in the morning and relax at the hotel instead. Will I still be able to enter any park after 2pm even if I didn’t check in at AK?

Thank you for your help!

Dave please correct me if I'm wrong but, if going to MK on a weekend, a park reservation is required whatever time an AP guest is entering if that is their first park, correct? NYE is not a weekend this year but just mentioning this exception for others reading the thread who may be going to MK on a Saturday or Sunday.

Unfortunately we have not heard that entering the park will be guaranteed. If you don't have a park reservation for MK and it is at capacity (we have no idea if this will happen) then no, we cannot say with confidence that you would definitely be able to get in. I hope you would but I don't believe it is guaranteed.
Also, I’m clarifying that let’s say we decide not to go to AK in the morning and relax at the hotel instead. Will I still be able to enter any park after 2pm even if I didn’t check in at AK?

No. Without a park reservation, entrance is not guaranteed. Since you are AP's and NYE is not on a weekend, I do not believe you would need a park reservation to enter after 2PM, if there is capacity to enter.

2024 is the first year that not all guests require park reservations so there are a lot of unknowns this year.

So if I have a park reservation at AK for the morning and lightning lane pre-booked at MK for the evening, will I definitely be able to get in do you think?
It always seems like more than a simple Yes or No. Admission is never guaranteed if a park reaches capacity. If you want to enjoy MK or Epcot on NYE you should plan to make it your first park of the day and depending on how crowed it is, you may want to just remain in the park.

Also, I’m clarifying that let’s say we decide not to go to AK in the morning and relax at the hotel instead. Will I still be able to enter any park after 2pm even if I didn’t check in at AK?
Normally yes but since you mention NYE, Admission is never guaranteed if a park reaches capacity.

Yes you are 100% correct. I always seem to miss the Park reservation being required for MK on Saturday & Sunday to enter at any time if you are a AP ticket holder.

Thanks I will add that to my response above to try to clarify. There are so many unique situations.

Admission is never guaranteed. If a park closes due to capacity it is for a Safety reason and would override all ticket options. However having a AP park reservation, being an on-site guest, a dated ticket holder, and an ADR at a park would improve your priority for entry if the park is in a partial closure.

The above reply from Post 4914 seems to contradict your reply from Post 4229 (below). Post 4229 seems to say that as long as an AP has a park reservation at any park, he can buy LLMP and book LLMP ride reservations at times before 2:00, while Post 4914 says the park reservation has to be at the park you are buying LLMP for, or else your times are limited to 2:00 or after. Has something changed? Am I misreading one of those answers?
Yes as long as you have a Park reservation at any park then you can select times for your LLMP and/or LLSP before 2 PM. If you have an AP and don't make a park reservation then it will only show you times after 2 PM at any park.

This Thread can be used for any questions regarding Lightning Lane Muti Pass and Single Pass!

Was trying to find a thread strictly about LL questions but couldn't find one.

Some questions I have is regarding park hopping.
One day of our trip we will start in Animal Kingdom and hop to Magic Kingdom. We have MYW tickets so reservation is required.
  • Since my reservation will be for Animal Kingdom can I buy the LLMP for Magic Kingdom for that day?
  • Other thought/question... Animal Kingdom LLMP is about $12 cheaper. Can I pick a "burner" for as early as possible at Animal Kingdom then Modify 3 LLs for Magic Kingdom? Do they require you to pay the difference or does the difference cancel out with not being able to make the preselection's for Magic Kingdom?
  • If my reservation is for Animal Kingdom, will I be able to book a single pass for Mine Train or Tron?
