Plan Ahead with Lightning Lane Entry at Walt Disney World Starting July 24

Can someone break this down for me as simple (bulleted list of steps??) as possible:

We have 4 day hoppers.

We want to ensure we ride Tiana, GoG, Tron, Remy - all the new ones since we were last there.

What do I need to do on each park day to make these happen? And, what is the rough-ish cost on what it might run me? Our park days are the week of August 18-22.

Walk me through like I am a 1000% illiterate newbie cuz that is how I feel reading this thread - I have no idea what each thing means.

Are you staying in the park? If you are on August 11 you can purchase those as individual lightening lanes. Any that are not available as ILL you can request as one of 3 on your multi-pass selection.

I do not think anyone knows the cost yet. That should be known July 24.

You’re a perfect audience for the many helpful YouTube explainers you can easily find on YouTube.

Since the announcement of the new Lightning Lane service just happened this week, look for videos that are only a few days old.

You can learn all the basics about virtual queues there as well.

Tiana isn’t available on Single Pass (aka Individual Lightening Lane) so you’re going to have to book it using MultiPass or rope dropping. If you want to book it as your preselect MultiPass, I would book it on your last park day as you will have the best selection (assuming you’re staying on property, you can book all of your park days 7 days before your resort check-in).

For GoG and Tron, you can buy a Single Pass - you shouldn’t have an issue obtaining those when you book 7 days in advance of resort check-in.

This might help along with videos from Ear Scouts and Shannon ford

I really struggle to learn from videos. I need a bulleted list or my brain goes hyperactive. Thank you, though!! Maybe I will have my son watch it and break it down for me.

I feel like the system will benefit those who go in the morning, leave for midday break, and come back later. For those folks, wouldn’t it make sense to book your three advanced selections in the morning and then as you add an additional one after each ride, schedule for the evening. Do we know yet if you are able to modify times? This will help in case a ride pops up that is only available during your afternoon break time. Is this making sense? ;)

I had exactly the same thought but would like to hear from others. It seems best to book the first three as early as possible, to then try to book extra Tier 1 (or any remaining useful Tier 2) selections as soon as possible. Presumably, by the time you get them, the best 4th, 5th and 6th LLs will be in the late afternoon/evening, so you can try to stack them to minimize walking, etc.

I'm so overwhelmed! I took one trip a couple of years ago using Genie+ when it was fairly new, so my memory is fuzzy. Trying to read up on everything, but it's information overload!

My upcoming trip is July 21-26, so things will change right in the middle of my trip.

We currently have base tickets and want to be able to do all of the headliners as well as lots of other rides as well. I think I can recall/figure out how Genie+ and ILL's work. I'm pretty confused on how things will change and I've never had to deal with virtual queues.

Could someone please explain this to me like I'm a 5 yr old (No offense to 5 yr olds - they're likely smarter than I am when it comes to this stuff).

Thanks!

FWIW, here are the prices for last August 20:

Genie+: EP-$17, MK-$23 (You'll be getting an EP MMLP for Remy and a MK LLMP for Tiana)
ILL: Guardians $15, Tron $20

As you said, whether the price of this year's LLMPs will be the same or not is currently unknown.

It's really like how FP+ strategies were and depends on what someone's plan is. There was a mega thread that detailed all the pros and cons to it when Legacy FP switched to FP+.

For instance the morning will often have lower wait times so you may be "wasting" your pre-selections on attractions that historically don't have as much waits times at that time of day. However, it could increase your odds of getting additional selections since there are more times available for the remaining part of the day.

You could instead use your pre-selections for afternoon/early evening when the lines typically have built over the day, this leaves less odds of getting additional selections but may help with riding something later on that has a higher wait time and you're standby earlier in the day attractions with historically lower wait times.

That works both with your question of get there early leave for mid day and come back later or for those park hopping especially if someone was typically park hopping in that afternoon/early evening timing. You could use the book pre-selections in the morning even if park hopping earlier on, you just had a much much lower chance of getting more desired selections for that second park.

The main difference here, which IMO is more the unknown, is how will the availability of subsequent selections work with not having to use up all 3 of your pre-selections first. With FP+ you had to use up all 3 of your selections which tied up time, now if only one selection has to be used or the arrival window passed you may possibly get more subsequent attractions quicker. However, since you can no longer re-ride an attraction with using a selection (if comparing to FP+ since Genie+ already had this restriction) that interacts there as well.

In 2017 we used the strategy with park hopping for later in the day. Our 3 FP+ pre-selections were done for the second park of the day and we park hopped all days (5 days total) in the early afternoon/evening.

For the LL, each person's ticket will have to be tapped separately, they won't scan as a group. So you'll pull up one ticket on your phone, tap it, pull up another ticket, tap that one, pull up a third, tap that one, etc. As you can see, that will take a long time! That's the reason we recommend that each person have a ticket card or a MB - it's much faster for them to tap and go than it is for you to pull up one ticket after another on your phone. Even if you have small kids who can't carry their own ticket or wear their own MB, it's quicker for an adult to tap the child's ticket and then their own than to switch from one ticket to another on a phone.

The same will hold true when entering the parks - and it's even slower because each person has to scan their finger as well as tap their ticket. So it truly is a benefit to your group, as well as a courtesy to the guests behind you trying to enter the park, to have a ticket card or MB for each person in your group.

You can get a ticket card for each person at any ticket booth or Guest Relations outside each park before you enter your first park, or at the Official Ticket Center in DS if you visit there first.
Does it take a long time to get the card for each person at the front gate? Just want to maximize the entry time at the start of the day. Basically we just scan the phone and they immediately give a card for each person ?

Yeah that's pretty much how we used to do it with FP+. I would book our first three something like this:
#1 9:30 - 10:30
#2 10:30 - 11:30
#3 11:30 - 12:30

We would typically sleep in a bit and get to the park around10am and ride the first FP. By the time that ride was done we were ready for FP #2 almost immediately. Then we would fill a ride or two of low wait standbys in until FP #3 at 11:30am. Once ride #3 was done either book another FP if one was available immediately or for right after lunch. Grab lunch, ride next FP. After that FP book the next FP for after our afternoon break, say 4-5pm. Then roll on more FP's once we return to the park for the rest of the evening.

The difference I'm seeing now is that you can book another FP (o.k. LLMP) after you've used just one. That's nice because it should help get more attractions done sooner and make the system more efficient.
