Plan Ahead with Lightning Lane Entry at Walt Disney World Starting July 24

We are also arriving on the 27th…and that same thought crossed my mind, to drive to the closest American state, which is a couple hours away, but then I changed my mind quickly. I think the first day of this new system will be a nightmare for everyone, we might not even be able to access it, let alone try to book something.
I sense a 3rd party market of Americans booking LLs for international guests coming soon…

I feel like this new system will hurt park hopping.

Under Genie+, if I plan on hopping to DHS in the evening and want to ride SDD, I can book it at 7am and choose or modify to an evening return time.

Under the new system, I would not be able to book anything at DHS until after I use my first LL at my daytime park. And by that time, SDD will be long gone :(
My worry as well. But - if I understand the new system correctly - maybe not to the extent I originally feared.

Like this poster, our fave park by far is HS. So we would usually rope drop, say, MK, having made a Genie+ and ILL selection for HS later in the day. Then add Genie+s at HS every two hours until we hopped over.

With this system, what I think we'll do is make our three LL picks for HS for the afternoon (plus an ILL for RotR, which I think remains), rope drop another park, then head over to HS later on. And when we start tapping in we try for other spots, which is where things I think will be most affected, as I'm guessing there might not be as much availability in this system as there was before. But then again, maybe not - we'll have to see.

The biggest issue I have by far is that I'm in Canada, and at the moment not allowed to purchase in advance, which is certainly a kick in the pants. I know that could change (we're two months out), but if not I do see a drive to Buffalo in my future.

Since this seems to be a hybrid of G+ and FP+, do we know if we will be able to book a lightning lane for the same ride more than one time per day? The fact that you could do that with free FP+, and were limited to a single LL for each ride per day with G+ just chapped my @$$

I would have liked to have seen that....

...Runner suddenly stops 10 feet from the finish line and pulls out their phone. 'Sorry, it's 7am and I have to book my LL'
I once pushed the last mile of a runDisney 10K super hard so I could cross the finish line before 7 AM to book my VQ and LLs. I was in the finisher's chute with staff yelling at me to keep walking. 🤣

What they're saying is that the price was built into the ticket cost whether you knew it or not.

But that's sort of a moot point considering tickets cost less back then anyway.
Yes, and also a moot point because we're never going back to free FPs. There is a reason that they choose to price LLs rather than going back to the way it was to appease guests. For me, no sense dwelling on it, since LLs will be a separate cost going forward, and likely one that gets higher and higher. Either choose to buy it or don't, that's what I can control.

We are arriving on July 25 so I was wondering will we be able to book our rides seven days before that or only one day before because it says it starts on the 24th?

Also, I still feel like DIsney needs to hire new "naming" people. Calling one a multi-pass vs a single-pass makes it sound like you're getting multiple single pass rides with the multi-pass. I think some people will be surprised when they purchase the multi-pass and discover that they can't book the most popular rides in the park with it.

Something like Silver rides (can pre-select 2), Gold rides (can pre-select 1), and Platinum rides (separate, extra charge for LL)

They are going to charge close to $100 per day per person for this if not more.

If that's the case, fewer guests will be buying them, making the standby going quicker.
Also, if fewer people purchase, it will mean more availability for those who do purchase, providing better value for the cost.

My kids are finally old enough to hit the parks at night. Our trip in April was the first time we were able to stack and use lightening lanes to have an awesome evening. I was hoping to do the same for our next trip. Not sure now how to hit a park in the morning and then have lightening lanes for the evening. Thankfully, we aren’t going until Jan. so there will be plenty of people testing it out before me.

I am usually all for the fewer people the better being my competition for booking passes but I am really shocked that international guests can’t book until they are in the US. I am pretty sure if I was international I would be canceling. It’s not right for offsite people to have a 3 day advantage and international guests spending thousands to stay on site to be blocked off.

I must have missed the tiers. Have they announced somewhere what is what? I hated the tiers.

Yeah I didn't even initially consider the implications of split stays when this change came out yesterday.

As new DVC members we were planning on doing split stays pretty much every trip (split time between MK and Epcot resort areas). Can't say I'm overly excited with this change and I truly hope there will be a guest services workaround to have them somehow link an entire stay with multiple resort reservations.

As I understand, I know they don't do that for ADRs but I'd have to imagine there are some CMs out there who'd be willing to sprinkle a little pixie dust every once in awhile. 🤞 🤷‍♂️😁

Many have noted that Meet-and-greets are not currently included in the multi-pass LL selections. I have a theory on this. My best guess is that they will be included later on, as will Enchanted Tales with Belle, and Parade viewing. The commonality of these other attractions (that had LL under Genie+ and are not currently listed) is that these attractions are not available over the totality of park hours. Most Character meets start at 10:00 a.m. and end well before the park closes. I suspect that programmers had enough on their plate getting this new system up and running and were told don’t worry about prioritizing the inclusion of these odd hour attractions for now. Summertime is slower than many other months of the year. So, Disney may have figured they could get by for now without this added capacity for Meet-and-Greets. I’m confident they’ll be back soon, as part of LL inventory.

All I know is I will get to ride something! When we visit we have annual passes and the last 2 trips, I never learned how to properly use the new system. We have gone so often, I am only sad to have missed the newest rides. But now it should be easier!!
