Plan Ahead with Lightning Lane Entry at Walt Disney World Starting July 24

Yes they were. To be fair it seemed like everything under the sun was available for FP+ back then. We'll have to see how it all plays out. How will the impact of no meet and greets, versus not every guest purchasing the MPLL system end up balancing out? FP+ morphed more than a few times during it's tenure and I expect the same with this new system. I'm very happy to have it as an option for our visits, although I loathe paying for it versus the old included FP+ system

Maybe my brain is oversimplifying this....we used to be able to do this, months in advance (if staying onsite) for FREE. And it worked great and we never had problems booking more rides the day of after we used each FP+. Now the same thing can be done, 7 days in advance, for a cost. And people are already complaining, 4-5 hours into the very first day, and predicting terrible experiences for future trips where they will only have 3 rides to do? Did y'all never do Disney in the FP+ days?

I feel like maybe we need to resurrect some old FP+ threads on how it works? And how successful it was as a FREE service. You have to understand that only a fraction of the people who used it as a FREE service will now pay in advance for it?

Also, with FP+, the last time I used it anyways, I could get FP+ for the same ride multiple times a day (after it was used) if there was still availability.

Also seeing several comments aimed at people choosing to buy LLMP for every day of their trip being a bad decision. But no comments about buying LLSP for rides that you could possibly get a VQ for FREE the morning of?
There is a big difference though between then and now. Back then, all rides were included in the FP system, with top rides in tier 1 and all others in tier 2. Now with some of the most popular rides only available through a LLSP, it effectively creates three tiers, with LLMP offering a smaller number of rides overall. Five rides (LLSP) may not seem like many to pull out of the system, but they are the most popular and run at capacity all day, so it's a lot of passes that are now pushed into the LLMP system to be absorbed by other rides. For this reason, I think the new LLMP system definitely has a lower capacity than the old FP system.

I’ve been looking here and there for BTMRR and haven’t seen any times pop up
I’ve seen it pop up a number of times. Same with Tiana, tower of terror, etc. no slinky though from what I’ve seen. We will see as more thrill data comes out

How are you checking availability -- is it just from the tip board, and pulling down to refresh, then scrolling through?

What LLMP reservation do you think you need in AK at 7 AM or 8 AM or are you just trying to make additional Tier 1 / Tier 2 experiences without any Tier restrictions for MK or HS for example?
Thanks for replying. I definitely do not want to be using LLs at AL at 7AM, but I was hoping if ITTBAB expired at 8:30AM (while my kids were still sleeping), I could book BTMRR or RnRC, etc. we are not rope drop people and I suspect this is going to make this new system much less valuable than G+ based on early reports.
I heard on all ears that you have to have scanned into the park
If that stays true I think they are going to lose a lot of customers like me who are happy to pay high prices but not if it means having to get everybody out of the hotel room by 8:30AM to get more than one “tier 1” attraction a day.

Ooh, thanks....here's what AllEars wrote:

4. YOU NEED TO SCAN INTO THE PARK TO BOOK ANOTHER SELECTION

Alright, this one is kind of a big one. One of our reporters had not scanned into a park yet, let one of their Lightning Lane Multi Passes expire without using it. Even after the selection expired, they were not able to make another selection. They are now holding only two Multi Pass selections yet are unable to make an additional selection. However, we believe this is because they haven’t scanned into the park yet.

Even though one expired, we weren’t able to book another selection.

Another one of our reporters who had scanned into a park was able to make an additional selection once their previous Lightning Lane Multi Passes had expired. So, they had three expired Lightning Lane Multi Passes and were able to make additional selections.

What we are seeing so far is that once you scan into the park you will be able to reselect a Lightning Lane Multi Pass once a selection has expired, however you won’t be able to make another selection if you have not scanned into the park.
This is good to know - on arrival day, I was thinking about reserving a 9:00 ride even though we wouldn't be scanning in until around 11:00. Was going to let it expire to book another tier 1 for later in the day. Guess can't do that!

Yes just the Tip Board but make sure you pull down enough for the Last Updated time to update. If you pull down you should see the Checking Availability message.

I kinda wish you were just limited to 3 selections. Period. Seems most of the conversations, with this new LLMP, Genie+ or FP+ are not about the initial selections, but rather, about the additional, 4th, 5th...selections. How to constantly refresh to modify. How to get the earliest return times to get to the 4th selection sooner. How to stack. The best strategy, hack, insider info, loophole, gaming the system. Having read this thread, and many, many, many other threads over many, many years of being a DIS fan, most of the discussion, disappointment and frustration surrounds the subsequent selections.
I think if we were able to choose to pay extra for 3 advanced selections, and that's it, there would be much, much less discussion and debate over the system, less time spent looking at the phone and less stress.

Feel free to book just 3 if that works better for you. I’m looking forward to getting more than 3 & reading people’s experiences with that.

How often are you checking? I’ve been looking every once in a while and haven’t seen any of those pop up but I’m not checking that often

I was curious about this, too. However, if I understand everything correctly, I think it is best to simply pre-book any 3 attractions. One, you paid to select them in advance. Two, what if the 1 attraction you pre-booked happens to be out of service? Then, you would have no other selections and would be scrambling to find something else around the same time on the day of.
If the ride you have booked goes down, won't you get a multi-attraction pass same as before?

do you mind saying how much the Multi pass was for your MK day? This sounds like it was $50/day per person which is crazy. We might need to rethink our plans for August
It varies based on Disney's estimated demand projections. Here is yet another example:

Saturday July 27th

LLMP - $25
LLSP - $11 - Seven Dwarfs
LLSP - $20 - Tron Lightcycle / Run ( You also have 2 chances for a free VQ (7 AM and 1 PM* )
*Note: to qualify for the 1 PM you need to tap in to MK before 1 AM but you can then leave the park...

Total $56 per person + tax (6.50%) = $59.64

ETA: formatting changes

I have been checking roughly every 15 minutes since 1 PM and I only saw BTMRR pop up once.

From 1pm to 3:30 I hopped on for 20 mins, bouncing between parks about once per hour. Chatted with my spouse and pretended it was a “pool break” at the resort. I would have been able to modify/build a really good 3-ride slate in any park for the evening (after using my intial 3 rides in the morning at my first park) if I was at WDW. I’ll try it again a couple of times before our trip and look up the Thrill Data to see if there are confirmed “drop times” to build out my strategy

Why? If you want that for yourself, then stop after 3. But with the money I am already spending on tickets and now this, I'm going to be mad if I end up with only 3. Sure there would be less discussion about it if it didn't exist, but why would you want to limit yourself to just 3 rides? Wouldn't it be easier to just not read or participate in these threads if they bother you?

Wishful thinking… much like the tickets it would be nice if they packaged priced for multiple days worth of LL multi pass. Instead of fluctuating prices around $30 per day let’s say you buy a 6 day hopper they cut you a break on 6 days of LL maybe like $120 instead of $180 or something along those lines.

I also wish they’d let us book ahead of time for Disneyland. At least we get a small discount as magic key holders but it’s so different than WDW.

Apparently, yes, because that already happened in the AllEars article!

However, there could be other delays or issues where it doesn’t officially go down, but you are rethinking your choice in the moment (like the ongoing Tiana unreliability). It would just be nice to have pre-selected some other rides to give more options for moving the day forward.

LLMP was $27 per person, plus tax
Tron ILL was $20 per person, plus tax
7DMT ILL was $11 per person, plus tax

$232 + $15.12 tax = $247.12

Do you have a link to the all ears article? Their website is a bit messy and I can’t locate the one you’re mentioning

I know people are checking MK right now and seeing nothing, but I am going to assume there is lightening in the area because it is showing every outdoor attraction as temporarily closed. So remember, weather will always play a part too, they have to then allow for those LLs missed to come back or re-book. I agree with most, today is not a good day to base judgement on the new system. Let's all see how it goes. The ones most affected by this are those that are there now. Those of us who don't have trips for awhile....take a breath. Remember, even a bad day at Disney beats most days at work! The magic is still there, we just need to recognize it, and it isn't always the rides.
After all, as Disney fans, aren't we supposed to be the ones that believe a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down?
