This is our first time using a placeholder and also our first time planning a trip in the early booking window. The placeholder was made with Costco as the TA. When I call Costco on Thursday to make the reservation when the silver Castaway window opens, will Costco have to call DCL to complete the reservation, or is that something they can do on their end without DCL involvement? Trying to figure out if I'll be on hold the rest of my natural life or just a moderate amount of time. Already a bit nervous about how far behind I'll be since Costco travel is on West Coast time.

Costco will have to call Disney.

I think from reports on here (I don't believe in big box stores in general, and definitely not for travel, so it's not personal experience), they will likely have people taking names, desired cruise info, and call back numbers and will have other people making the reservations, so it's definitely a process.

It can be a bit of a pain to go through Costco, although these days the reports of calling DCL directly seem no better at all, so I don't know that it's really worse to go through Costco right now. I'll be the one to say here that I totally use Costco, for frankly a ton of stuff in my real life. We are a family of 5, and the savings on basic stuff is just unbeatable, plus I love the way they stand behind their products. I digress. When I've most recently had to call Costco for DCL stuff, they have taken a list to call you back. It's not perfect, but oh well. I'll take the savings.

In the pre-covid times, Costco Travel was open at 5am eastern :(
