Pizza debate

My take...

Pizza is pizza. It is a distinct set of ingredients put together a certain way to create the item you wish to create. It has a certain look, feel, texture, and flavor. There are extra items you can add, toppings if you will, that compliment it being pizza and tasting like pizza. A pizza's flavor comes from the crust, sauce, and cheese. What compliments that is mushrooms and pepperoni, the long term standard toppings.

Adding something like Buffalo chicken to make Buffalo Chicken Pizza can't be compared to actual pizza. That isn't pizza, it is Buffalo Chicken Pizza, something different. The flavor is the Buffalo chicken rather than the pizza. Same with things like meat lover's pizza. Not pizza, that's just an open face sandwich. This goes with pineapple as well, takes away the flavor of the pizza and makes it something different.

So, if I want pizza, then no, nothing else other than mushrooms or pepperoni. If I wanted Hawaiian pizza or chicken pizza, then I'd get that, but in my eyes it is not pizza. When I want pizza, I want a delicious Italian crust with a good tomato sauce and high quality cheese and perhaps a topping that compliments with the pizza flavor without changing it to something else.
Mr. Odgers, let's get down to brass tacks here. Pizza is an amorphous thing, like tacos. You can create all kinds of each, within a certain boundary.

If people add Buffalo Chicken to pizza, it's still pizza. If you ordered Buffalo Chicken, and they brought you a pizza, you'd throw up your arms and shout, "I did NOT order a pizza!" What you're also tasting is the crust and other non-Buffalo Chicken oriented ingredients. Pizza does not qualify as an open-faced sandwich (maybe an "extroverted calzone"), but your argument does induce a face-palmed response.

And so the thread fire grows ever stronger!

It is not some thing I usually order unless I go to a certain pizza place. When I go there... I order (I think it's called the Hawaiian) because it is the best pizza on the menu. It is seriously good stuff!

I posted before that I'm team pineapple, and all sorts of veggies, but I will say that lately I also really enjoy just a plain cheese pizza, especially the thinner NY style. You can really tell the quality of a pizza place by their plain cheese pies, when they don't have all the topping flavors to hide behind.

Pineapple on pizza is okay. I wouldn’t order it with pineapple, but if someone offered me a slice with pineapple on top, I’d eat it.

I love pineapple on pizza!

But I also love a good banana pepper, bacon, and onion pizza so I might also be weird.

Sounds terrible but so does ranch dressing had couple of times it wasn't awful. It's all pizza underneath right.

My son loves Hawaiian pizza so I guess my taste buds have grown accustomed to it. I wouldn't order it for myself but I'll enjoy it if that's all that's available. Pizza is pizza. my favorite pizza is hand-tossed with pepperoni, onions, and green peppers, but I like ham on pizza too so on a Hawaiian pizza that ham makes the pineapple tolerable.
