Pizza debate

NO anchovies, NO chicken !!! pineapple is ok. usually pepperoni and peppers (peppadews or bells, or sometimes jalapenos.

Pineapple with sausage. But it depends a LOT what the kitchen does with the pineapple.
Well-drained tidbits (small chunks) are best.
Full rings are oh-kay, but definately not a preference.
UNdrained crushed never gets ordered again, and I give the side eye to the rest of their menu.

I've never tried pineapple on pizza. I recently had a bit of Mike's hot honey drizzled on a pepperoni slice and it was very good.
After trying that, I think maybe a little grilled pineapple with pepperoni or sausage might be something I'd like.

DH & I like pineapple on our pizza,
but he likes meat more than the fruit.
I keep frozen pineapple chunks for several things,
but it's very good on bake at home or frozen pizza.
It's never been canned w/juice so it doesn't ruin the cheese.

Against my better judgement, I tried hot honey despite it not sounding good with cheese, tomato sauce, or with Italian spices. I could kind of see it, because who wouldn't like hot honey, but it really was not a particularly good combination IMO. I could see how it was good with the pepperoni, but with the cheese? Not so much.

Detroit-style pizza
Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ sauce
Grilled chicken
Red onions
PINEAPPLE
Bacon
Mozzarella

Jet's is our favorite!! (I am perfectly happy without the chicken)

You've been to a place that just pours crushed pineapple on the pizza? I am pro-pineapple, but even I would find that gross!

One trick that my brother-in-law taught me is that if you don't like the sweetness, to cut it with something spicy, hence jalapenos. It makes for a really good combination!

I love pineapple, but not on pizza. There are worse things on pizza, though, like peppers, mushrooms, onions...

Myself, like you, not a fan of peppers, mushrooms, and onions on pizza.

I would totally go for chicken on a pizza. I hope we all understand that this means small pieces of chicken, and not whole drumsticks right there on the pie. I say this because some of you may be into some truly odd food choices. Truly.

Buffalo chicken pizza is good. We order this one frequently from a local place: marinara base, spinach, tomatoes, artichokes, cajun grilled chicken, feta cheese & garlic.

My take...

Pizza is pizza. It is a distinct set of ingredients put together a certain way to create the item you wish to create. It has a certain look, feel, texture, and flavor. There are extra items you can add, toppings if you will, that compliment it being pizza and tasting like pizza. A pizza's flavor comes from the crust, sauce, and cheese. What compliments that is mushrooms and pepperoni, the long term standard toppings.

Adding something like Buffalo chicken to make Buffalo Chicken Pizza can't be compared to actual pizza. That isn't pizza, it is Buffalo Chicken Pizza, something different. The flavor is the Buffalo chicken rather than the pizza. Same with things like meat lover's pizza. Not pizza, that's just an open face sandwich. This goes with pineapple as well, takes away the flavor of the pizza and makes it something different.

So, if I want pizza, then no, nothing else other than mushrooms or pepperoni. If I wanted Hawaiian pizza or chicken pizza, then I'd get that, but in my eyes it is not pizza. When I want pizza, I want a delicious Italian crust with a good tomato sauce and high quality cheese and perhaps a topping that compliments with the pizza flavor without changing it to something else.
