Pizza Chain accepts Pesos

No big deal. I grew up in a city about 30 minutes from the Canadian border. I would be hard pressed to come up with a location that didn't have a little sign with the exchange rate for Cdn dollars posted. In a bunch of ways, our county's economy was more tied to the Canadian economy than the American. And yes, a lot of Canadian coin would show up frequently in our change.

Although, it would be pretty funny when we would travel to some place on vacation and we'd pull out a Canadian penny and the other person would FREAK OUT that they couldn't accept foreign money.

Is it any different than when we Americans go to Canada and use our American Dollars, rather than the local Canadian?

Not any different unless you got an issue with one group over another.

Why? I used to work in retail and we never had any problems accepting American dollars

It seems like a business decision to me. My husband has a cigar box in his dresser with odds and ends of foreign currency from travel that he kept because either didn't have time to exchange it or because he thought he may need it in the future (or because it was interesting). I think there are some people who will have a problem with it because they irrationally fear it is the opening of the floodgates and that eventually the McDonalds on the corner will demand yuans or pesos for a quarter pounder. It isn't going to happen.

Zero problems with this. They're essentially only exchanging it for them. Just as any bank or currency exchange would. :confused3

All I know is I hope the register has a button for them to use that automatically figures the correct change for the currency and exchange rate. I don't want to be in the line with a clueless person behind the counter and they have to find the manager.

I'm all for them accepting any form of currency they want as long as they are prepared to do so.

Personally, I don't have a problem with it. Although, I can see where people might.

We already have problems in Texas with some people being concerned that we cater too much to the Hispanic population (esp illegals) as it is. This will just add more fuel to the fire, I think.

If they want to accept toenail clippings for their products, it's no problem to me. They have to work the exchange, not me.

:rotfl2:

Really, who cares? And frankly, someone who does care really, really needs to find something else to occupy their thoughts or time!

If this is some jingoisitc thing, wouldn't the fact that a private business can make decisions freely be something we could celebrate about free enterprise in America?

I just don't get some people...:confused3

Well...I guess it is just me:rotfl:

Listen...I'm not trying to start any fights or anything, I was just curious what everyone thought. I guess I just am uncomfortable thinking that Mexican money is now allowed to be used in some places inside the US...kind of like it's just that one more step into making parts of the United States into parts of Mexico (starts with the language, goes to flags, money, etc….what’s next?). And it's not just Mexico. If I lived in a heavily Chinese neighborhood in Vancouver or Toronto I would expect Canadian dollars, not (sorry, don't know what the currency is in China...Yen is Japan, right?). In my opinion, US dollars and Canadian dollars are somehow different possibly due to the fact the coins are so similar, the values are relatively close, and I guess just the history between the two countries and it’s so common(believe me, I know I get many American coins from the stores up here, but I've never heard of any stores accepting other types of currency). Also, I can see how a Canadian place would accept US dollars (they're worth more), but a peso is nowhere near the value of a US or CDN dollar.

Anyway...there is my rant...again, just my opinion…feel free to disagree :)

I'm fine with it. There's a Pizza Patron right by my house, and I can tell you that their clientel is probably 95% Latino. If this makes it easier for them to do business - it works for me.

The only thing I care about is that they make the best $5 pizza anywhere.

Saw this on the news today as well. I don't care....The Latino community is very large in Texas. I work in a school cafeteria that is 1/2 Latino...I am trying to learn Spanish.:thumbsup2

I will have to look up their Pizza Place.;)

I spend US dollars in Mexico all the time, the computer systems figure the price for pesos or dollars. Foreign countries treat US citizens better than some folks in United States want to treat foreign citizens.

You're right...we should begin allowing EVERY currency on the planet to make sure we don't 'offend' anyone and treat foreign citizens well. I'm sorry, but that is ridiculous. Nearly every place in the world will accept US dollars, but the US cannot accept every other currency in return. For foreigners, there are banks to exchange the money for US cash (which, if they are citizens, they should already be using).

Uhh, there are banks and exchange places in foreign countries, as well. So, by the same line of thought, US dollars should not be accepted in any other country. The US visitors could go to a bank in that foreign country and exchange dollars for the local currency.

BTW, if your location is Winnipeg, Canada, why do you care what currency is accepted in the US?

Since you are apparently Canadian, why the heck do you care if America is "taken over". Because after they conquer the US via bilingual bus schedules and pizza parlors that take pesos, Canada will be next?

I guess Canadian and American money is similar because "real" Canadians and "real" Americans are white, and the real "foreign" money comes from people who aren't. Is that supposed to be your point?

Your opinion is mind-bogglingly stupid.

Unless they lose more business than they gain due to the narrow-mindedness of some people, this seems like a smart business decision on my part. It should allow for more pizzas to be sold for the first additional profit and at a better exchange rate for the business (worst for the customer) than the going rate for the second additional profit.

Currency is currency...it is a representation. It has no nationality in and of itself, it is simply a medium by which exchanges can be made. By a business taking in another country's money, they're not in any way changing our system. They're simply acting as exchange agents. What on earth is your problem with that????
And as far as treating foreign citizens well...hey, if they want to come HERE to spend their "foreign" money, by all means, let them! We'd be idiotic, NOT patriotic,to make it more difficult for them to do so!

So? There are banks in foreign countries for us to exchange our US $ for Foreign currency as well.

If they accept our money why shouldn't we accept their's?

Then that would be your right as a business owner to insist customers pay in Canadian dollars. I don't understand why you care what other business owners choose to do. :confused3

I'm sure the pizza chain is taking into account the difference in value and charging more pesos than dollars. Also, we're talking about a chain in Texas, right? Pesos in Texas are likely just as "common" as American dollars in Canada.
