So we are leaving for WDW in 2 days:banana::banana: and I'm trying to finalize our touring plans. Here's my question: My twins are almost 6 and one of them is really starting to ask the hard questions. No, not the birds and the bees, the "is this real" type of question. However, she was totally caught up in the magic of Christmas, and her initial wonderings about Santa disappeared completely. So I am pretty sure that the magic of Disney will also sweep her off her feet again.

However, there is some debate in our house as to whether the girls want to meet tink (because our other almost six year old totally believes all of it and wants to have nothing to do with "shrinking down to fairy size".) ;) My question is, will the Tink meet and greet send my on-the-verge-of-skepticism kid over the edge? How well is it done? And, in my feverish planning state, am I over thinking this? (Probably.)

Any experiences are welcome! Thanks!!

Honestly the whole shrinking down thing is nothing at all. My dd7 didn't even notice it. There is nothing mechanical or magical about it, you walk into the room where the fairies are the the scenery is large scale so that a flower is 7 feet high (kind of like the Honey I Shrunk the Kids Playground at DHS). There is no ceremony, pixie dust etc. My dd7 is asking lots of questions, but once there and with the characters she is still enthralled. I agree you are overthinking it, go with the flow.

If dd is becoming more vocal about her skepticism I would pull her to the side and remind her that the characters were magical for her at 6 and she should let the magic continue for her sister too.

My DD had just turned 5 when we went to Pixie Hollow. She didn't really believe in the shrinking part even then. "How did we shrink if you are still the same size" she kept asking me. Nevertheles, meeting tink and the other fairies was the highlight of the trip. It really is done in a magical way and very beautiful. She does believe that tink is real, but the shrinking part was a bit much for her I think. We are going back, (she is now 6) and she is really looking foward to meeting the fairies again.

Hmmm. I can't imagine many 5 or 6-yr-olds would actually believe they are shrinking. You basically walk down a hallway and suddenly the paintings of ladybugs, etc on the walls are huge. The greeter person says you're shrinking down to the size of a fairy. Then you go into the room with Tink and the other fairies. It's fun and more entertaining than just walking back to the princess room, but it's not at all realistic. The fairies were the highlight off DD8's trip. We waited in line 3 separate times to see them.

I''m worried about the magic slipping away as well. We took my 4.5 yr old niece in 2008 and she believed all was real and asked if Tinkerbell landed in her hand would it be okay as long as she didn't touch her wings. Of course I told her if she landed it would be just fine. They didn't have Pixie Hollow and she only saw Tink in the Pirate & Princess parade, way up high on a treasure chest. I was afraid she would question, but was too mesmerized. She will be 7 for our May trip and I have a feeling she will be more aware of what is real or not. She already saw a picture of Dondald and asked why his foot looked like plastic shoes??? I told her maybe they were made special for ducks:confused3 How sad when children have to learn about reality:sad1:

Even though I have a DS, I can relate to this topic. When we were in WDW for his 5th birthday, he told me he knows that the characters are just people in costumes, but when he is standing next to them, like most kids, the character so takes over, there is no thinking about reality. Just let the girls enjoy the moment !!;)
