Pixie Dust at a WDW Restaurant?

I read something earlier on a social media site that got me thinking of a great experience my family had at 50's Prime Time one year.

It was my husbands birthday during our WDW stay, which was noted on our reservation. When we checked in at the hotel, he was given a pin stating Happy Birthday and his name. Since we arrived a little early, our room was not ready, so he just pinned it on his shirt and we went to lunch at the Grand Floridian Cafe. Several CMs wished him a happy birthday while en route through the GF to the restaurant. At the restaurant, he got more happy birthday wishes and a birthday cupcake.

The next morning, my daughter, 6, told him he needed to wear his pin again. We went to Hollywood Studios for the day. We started at Hollywood and Vine for breakfast. He got several happy birthday wishes, a card and another cupcake. Now my daughter was feeling a little jealous! I told her some day we would come for her birthday.

For lunch, we went to 50's prime time. By that time, anyone who wished my husband a happy birthday was given the evil eye by my daughter! After our meal, once again, the staff surprised my husband with a cupcake. My daughter folded her arms in front of her and pouted. I was very embarrassed by her behavior. Our waitress asked her why she was frowning. She said "Your at the happiest place on earth. You should be smiling!" I explained that she was feeling a little jealous of the special treatment her father was receiving, but someday we would come back for her birthday too " The waitress talked to my daughter a bit, then left the table. A few minutes later, all the waitstaff came to my table, gave my daughter a cupcake and sang happy birthday. Each of them gave her a Happy Birthday pin! By the time we left, she had about 15 HB pins attached to her shirt! Not that she deserved it, but she was the happiest girl in the park that day. It truly made our magic vacation even more special.

Has anyone else received some pixie dust at a WDW restaurant?

For birthdays, yes the cupcake & singing. Also for our anniversary once at Le Cellier they also wrote Happy Anniversary on our dessert plate.

And not at a restaurant, but once when I got off The Land, the CM said I had a phone call (at her station) & it was Goofy calling to wish me a Happy Birthday!

I don't know if this is standard at BOG for birthdays, but my dad received a card as well as the grey stuff. He was pleased to get it, but I think I was more excited to add such a neat thing to my WDW ephemera collection. Pixie dust for dad translated into some extra dust for me.

FEB2014 I organized a trip for 12 of us,with 3 of us with birthdays and it turned into such a fabulous trip from beginning to end! Expected nothing much really but were we surprised! Start with b-day buttons, beautiful fake gems given to each of us by the boat captain on the way to DTD. Free dessert at each Restaurant (3of them) (Sanaa, Tepan Edo, Via Napoli, Olivia's, Ragland's.... ) While walking at Epcot an accapella travel group of 10 stopped us and sang us happy birthday with everone else joining in! It was truly a magical trip!
PS: Forgot, signed by Mickey birthday cards slipped under the door of suite!

We usually go to WDW near a celebration of some sort (anniversary, bday, etc). We wear our buttons frequently and have received sooooo many cupcakes! But we've also received specially printed menus, champagne, etc. The one time we didn't wear our buttons was when our resort was out of anniversary buttons and gave us honeymoon buttons and my wife was 7 1/2 months pregnant. We got so many "...Congratulations?" type comments from people who apparently thought it was a shotgun wedding. So the next day I stopped in a gift shop at MK and got the anniversary buttons.

My nephew has received free dessert, candy and glowing toys a few different signature restaurants, and weren't celebrating anything. Made the kids DAY though, really cool surprises.

DS3 was wearing a race medal from his race that morning, and our server at R&C gave him a light up Buzz drink as a congrats.

I was really surprised at this. I was wearing a "I'm celebrating" pin and the CM had written "The birth of my first grandchild" under it. Yes, my first DGD was born while I was at WDW. I was in DHS and the CM at Min and Bill's said Mickey had bought my ice cream.

We have been fortunate enough to celebrate lots of birthdays at WDW and had some lovely pixie dust for those celebrations but my favourite pixie dust moment was not for a celebration at all.

We went to Kouzzina for breakfast in 2012 and my dd asked what fruit was in the fruit salad as she has an orange allergy (hives and discomfort not life threatening thankfully) they said the chef would come out and we thanked them profusely but told them not to bother him for the reasons already given. Anyway he came out despite this and noticed that she had ordered the waffles too which had orange blossom honey on them. We said not to worry we would just dispense with that and he offered dd some maple syrup as an alternative.

when the food arrived she thanked him for looking after her so well. He said he was impressed with her lovely manners and had something for her. He returned from the kitchen with his cast members Christmas decoration from the previous year and gave it to her. We talk about him still and dd later that day paid it forward by giving a small child and his dad who were looking at the TSM queue and deciding they didn't have time to wait in line her fast pass (and mine!!!) so that they could ride as she had time to wait. :

We recently celebrated our 7th anniversary last week. We received grey stuff at bog and a dessert w happy anniversary at Hollywood and vine. We have celebrated other anniversaries too (we got married at Disney) and had pixie dust sprinkled at our table at liberty tree and CRT. Another family bought us lunch at sci fi one year for our anniversary. So sweet.

DDs 8th birthday we ate lunch at Tony's Town Square and they decorated the entire table with balloons, streamers and Mickey confetti.One of the CMs in the trolley share called out to her "Happy Birthday" and the Dapper Dans sang Happy Birthday to her on Main Street. Also got to ride up front of the monorail (this was in 2009). We've gotten the famous Strawberry Shortcake for dessert from Hoop Dee Doo when we celebrated birthdays at Trail's End. The most fun was my birthday at 50's PT. First, I started with a Long Island Iced Tea so needless to say, I was up for a celebration. Our cousin/server was awesome, he got everyone in our section to sign a card for me (I didn't notice), then the whole section sang Happy Birthday, and I got the free birthday cupcake. Later in the day, I heard someone call my name from far away and turned to see who from our hometown was there, and instead a "stranger" said "It's us - Cousin Carl and Judy - from lunch". (Paraphrasing names). It was the greatest fun.

I got so many free desserts for my birthday trip in 2012 and "Happy birthday!" from CMs, it was fantastic! Plus, I had a Happy Birthday place mat signed by all the characters at the 1900 Park Faire dinner when I sat down at the table. Plus, a birthday card from Minnie and Mickey when we arrived at our hotel room.

BIRTHDAY-ANNIVERSARY-HONEYMOON-GRADUATION-ETC Celebrations by Cast Members:
1) It is a matter of the CM's personal initiative.
. . . depends upon how much they like you as a guest
. . . it always helps to wear a Happy Birthday button
. . . depends if they feel like doing anything special today
. . . depends upon the phase of the moon
2) CM's can do a lot, or they can do nothing at all as they have immense control
. . . they are under no obligation to give goodies or even acknowledge special day
. . . they can go way overboard, give lots of gifts
. . . they have A LOT of leeway for what they will or will not do for you
. . . they can see the event if listed on the ADR or hotel ressie and you hope for the best
3) Some of the things a CM can do for free are
. . . table with Mickey confetti
. . . your name/celebration on menu at TS locations (except BOG)
. . . best table location
. . . special personalized menu
. . . character-autographed birthday cards
. . . balloons
. . . balloon animals
. . . wine or champagne or Shirley Temples
. . . room towel animals
. . . appetizers or desserts
. . . cakes
. . . cupcake with candle (almost always available for the asking)
. . . place mats autographed by characters
. . . free appy or free dessert
. . . ride an attraction with a character
. . . personalization items for the Magic Bands
5) Some other items CM's can give for free
. . . room full of balloons and/or flowers
. . . fruit basket or wine basket in hotel room
. . . individual fast passes or booklets of several fast passes
. . . food and snack items (candy, popcorn, sundries)
. . . room upgrades
. . . attraction rides with characters
6) If you really want something special, buy it yourself.
. . . eatery: carry presents in and keep/hide them in a paper bag
. . . eatery: carry a cake in, but, WDW won't prepare, store, or serve it
. . . eatery: order non-decorated cake at the eatery podium check-in
. . . eatery: order decorated cake from the WDW Cake Hotline
. . . room: order special in-room celebration decorarting by Disney
. . . room: order strawberries and cream, if resort has room service
. . . room: decorate the room yourself
7) If there are multiple celebrations for people during a trip
. . . do not do separate celebration locations or tables
. . . one person may get an enthusiastic CM and get goodies
. . . one person may get a lazy CM and get nothing
8) Hundreds, or thousands, celebrate everyday at WDW.
9) It is too much time/money for CM's to attend or recognize all.

NOTE: I have personally given out freebies such as major room upgrades, fruit baskets,
wine & cheese baskets, fast passes. It all depends upon how you act toward us and the
mood we are in at that time. Of course, there are those guests for whom I would do
absolutely nothing involving personal initiative.

We celebrated our 10 year wedding anniversary in 2013. Got free dessert at Cape May Cafe and confetti on out table at Crystal Palace. Lots of 'happy anniversary' too. Also, had a card from Mickey and Minnie left in our room telling us congratulations.

In 2014 we celebrated both kids birthdays, which are both mid-summer. They got several cards (Crystal Palace Iremember for sure and one other place, Tusker House, maybe?) lots of cupcakes and grey stiff at BOG.
