Hi, Booking the Dream in 2013 and I'm trying to decide between cabins 5688 (with an itty bitty verandah but clear view) and 6178 (with obstructed views but decent size verandah). I found pix and a Youtube video of 5688, but haven't found anything on 6178 other than the stateroom reports in the link above.

Honestly, the smaller verandah size of 5688 doesn't bother me all that much since I will be cruising solo with my son. But if the obstruction for 6178 isn't that bad, well, that could be a bonus since the price is the same!

I love the proximity that 5688 will offer to the kids club since my son basically moved in there a few weeks back on the Fantasy. But I am a little concerned about the noise level we may have on Dream's deck 5. That seems to be a big issue for people, but on the Fantasy we had no problems at all.

Thanks!

It is a great view from 5688, just remember if you wish to sit our there, that itty, bitty verandah does not have chairs, but instead, a pretty uncomfortable bench that is bolted to the floor.

Thanks DRSG! Have you stayed in 5688? I'm curious about the cushions on the "bench" and if they are permanently affixed to it, or if they can be arranged so the back portion can go by the sliding glass door rather than the back of the bench. (Am I making sense? I know what I mean but it's been a loooong day! :rolleyes1) It seems like that may be a more comfortable way to sit.

We were in the twin, 5188. If memory serves, the cushions were affixed with velcro and movable, but it would have been pretty uncomfortable to sit on the deck that way. We loved the location, the view, and the quietness of the area, but just hated that verhandah. To be fair, we stayed there when it was a priced the same as a regular sized verandah, so we felt we did not get our $$ worth. We've actually read a review from people who thought it was cozy, so there you go.

Yeah, I can see how paying full fare for that verandah would be disheartening! On the cruise I am considering, that verandah about $300 LESS than the next category up (6b) and about $96 MORE than the oceanview (8c).

Since it's just me & my 6 y.o. son, the size of the verandah isn't much of a concern. Hmmm...choices!! :-)

Thanks for your input!

What a great deal! We were just 3 in the cabin, two adults and a 9 year old. Wish we could help you with pics of the other stateroom's obstruction. For us, the bigger verandah, almost regardless of the obstruction, would have been been a no-brainer. We like our son to go to bed before us at night and we love to sit and drink coffee in the morning on the verandah before he wakes (or as he watches Disney Channel for an hour!:goodvibes ). Having a place to actually sit and relax is a big plus for us. This trip, we got the biggest one we could and we can't wait!!

We just got off the Dream and had 6178, we really liked it still really close to the kids club. As for the balcony i wouldn't really call it obstructed, it was covered. I would choose that took again any time
