Pirates 4 confirmed?

I sure hope it will come to be. I just love the first 2. Funny because I didn't go to the theater to see the first one because it looked like something I wouldn't like. I think it turned out to be one of my all time favorites!

When the first movie came out it was widely reported that Verbinski, Depp, Rush, Bloom and Knightly were signed on for a total of three movies. Given the amount of money these things are pulling in, it would be prohibitively expensive to resign them all. If there is a 4th, it will likely be a very different animal.

I fully expect them to run this franchise down our throats. When Depp decides he's had enough, they'll probably do a straight-to-DVD release. They can't leave a good thing alone; they drive everything into the ground. Exhibit A: Lilo and Stitch. Sequels, direct-to-DVD releases, announcements on the monorail, an attraction (that laughably is part of the Fast Pass system), a line of pins, a huge spitting gargoyle atop World of Disney... If we didn't know better, it'd seem like Stitch was tring to sneak his way into the Fab Five.

The cost of the sequels is now said to top $300 million - each. Filming a forth movie, with the demands that Johny Dipp, the other actors and Jerry Brickheimer would make would easily push the cost of Pirates 4 to well over $400 million. Even Disney isn't stupid enough for that.

It will be at least seven years before you see another Pirate movie. The only chance would be if Disney remains in its box office funk and has no choice but to go back.

Per the article:

Mark Zoradi, president of the Disney Motion Pictures Group said that the eagerly awaited third movie may not be the last Pirates film.

"The third film... will conclude the initial Pirates trilogy, though it is unlikely to be the last Pirates sequel," the Daily Mail quoted him, as saying
.

Assuming #3 does blockbuster business as well, if they can't get the cast to sign-on for #4 within a year or two, they'll recast and start developing a TV series. Count on it. pirate:

Right but they have pulled in over $1 billion so far in Just box office.

Talk merchindising and I bet they are heads up over $2 billion easy.

Nothing is ever set instone on how these things will go.

But I just went friday to apack movie house full of teens watching the R rated JA II that was going to be a flop and pulled in $28 mil

Hows Disney in a funk they have had many top pictures in the last few years.

AV has pointed out before that "in general" a movie needs to make back 3X its cost in order turn a profit. Add to the fact that more then one of "Disney's" recent top pictures were not fully Disney owned and the profits had to be split many different ways.

I hope this is just rumor. There's only so far you can go with a movie like "Pirates".

The grapevine around town says that a script for a fourth movie is in development - and that it does not include Orlando Bloom's Will Turner character.

Maybe they'll decide to kill off one of the characters to spice things up....kinda like Harry Potter or X-men 3

I would gladly watch Capt. Jack stare into the camera for two hours. That's
worth the price of admission for me. As long as Depp signs on, I'll be there.
"If you sign him.....they....will.....come......". ;)

I agree - they could just keep Capt. Jack and then go in a new direction with new characters and I would be happy!!! :sunny: :thumbsup2
