How dressed up does everyone get for Pirate Party night? Just curious...we aren't going to cruise intil Sept. 2009, but I am already planning on getting a costume together if needed. TIA!

On the Magic, we went all out with complete costumes for the whole family (DSs had been pirates for Halloween anyway). This year on the Wonder, I ordered black polo shirts w/scull&crossbones from Old Navy for the boys, I have a black and white polkadot dress and I'm going to put on a piratey tattoo and maybe some type of hat or bandana, and DH is looking for a pirate tee to wear. The kids are actually excited to not have to get completely dressed up. Plus it will probably be very warm for us in less than 3 weeks!!! I'm a little bit disappointed to not be so dressed up, but I understand the Wonder is more casual than the Magic.

We've never dressed up in the past and we were in the majority on our past two 7 night Westerns.

For this upcoming cruise, DW is dressing up and still trying to convince me to do so. There will be several others on our cruise dressing up, but my guess is that a majority won't. A lot of people simply wear pirate t-shirts and add the bandana and eyepatch they give out at dinner.

Here's a crowd picture from our last cruise.

We have done six cruises and never dressed up for pirate night. (why spend all that money (not to mention luggage space)on costumes you wear for one evening?) If we have a pirate shirt we wear it if not black and white will do. We typically go to Party City and buy pirate tattos, eye patches and earrings. They pass out a bandana at dinner that everyone wears and I think that is fine. I would agree that the majority of folks do not dress up.

We've always dressed for Pirate Night. We're probably a bit over the top, but wear full re-enactment costumes (we leave the swords at home) and always have a great time.

The costumes are a bit bulky and heavy so we usually send them to the ship ahead. The new restrictions on shipping will be something to work around. On our September cruise, we're spending some time at WDW before and after the cruise, so we'll ship to/from the resort. The October and January cruises are shorties and we're traveling with others, so we'll probably forgo costumes (dang!).

While many people settle for the bandanas distributed at dinner and the odd eye patch, it's great fun to dress. pirate:

KSDisneyDad, i was wondering was this on the Wonder or Magic that they gave out the eye patches and bandana's. we are doing our first cruise on 8-21-08 and i was going crazy... trying to get last minute things like eye patches and bandana's but if i dont need to purchase will help me out alot. thanks for letting me know.

We were on the June 29th cruise. We did not dress up. I did buy my DD's pirate mouse ears which they wore. Most people didn't dress up at all. You would be fine either way. The deck party only lasts 45 minutes or so and I thought it was kind of lame--more for little kids. I would go again just to see the fireworks.

Have a great trip.

My DD5 was a pirate for Halloween- so she was dressed in her pirate costume. But DH and I just got some pirate tshirts and wore them with the bandana they gave us. Alot of people were fully decked out in their pirate gear though.

On the Wonder, few get dressed up. On the Magic many get very dressed up. Why??? I am unsure but we always dress up! I am a Civil War Reenactor so putting on goofy clothes is pretty normal for me ;-)

And don't forget, when else can you watch Pirates in the Caribbean, while being in the Caribbean, dressed as a pirate!

We are going on our first cruise June of 09'. I wanted to find pink pirate ears and I cold not locate any ears on the Disney site. Does anyone know where to find the ears?:earsboy:

It is fun to get in to the theme of the night. On past DCL cruises, we noticed that more and more people were getting in to costume, not just the kids. So on our last cruise, we dressed for Pirate Night and loved it. Not only was it fun, we were able to get some great picture opportunities. Our 8 month old DD was dressed up like a parrot. She became a celebrity for the evening with other families and children asking to be photographed with her. It was very cute. Besides the pirate garb was quite comfortable.

I hope the image posts. This is the first time I am trying to put an image in a reply. If it doesn't please somebody let me know how to do it!!!!pirate:

I know the Wonder is more casual about Pirate Night but our family is totally going all out. We <3 everything Pirate and can't wait to dress up! It does take up more space (those darned pirate hats!) but we're going to make it work.

For us, it's not about what other people do, it's about what it going to make our vacation special. If any of my family didn't want to dress up, we wouldn't make them and wouldn't worry about "fitting in" or not.

I actually find myself signing autographs in the kids books somethimes! If you ever see a;
"Captain Jaques LePlume" in one of your signature books, Then you know who I am!

I'm going on my first cruise in June 2009 also; but looking at your countdown ticker I think I am going 1 or 2 weeks before you. I'm 10 months and 3 days away from cruising on the DCL Wonder!

I used to see the pink MM pirate ears in the Disney Stores when they were open here. Usually around when the POTC movies came out. I know they do sell them in WDW! They might sell them in the Disney gift shop at MCO?

you will see anything from full pirate gear, to just a bandana that you get with dinner and a pirate t-shirt, to just regular clothing. Either way, no matter what you decide to wear, you won't feel left out!

It was on the Magic. I assume they do the same thing on the Wonder...anyone know?

Thanks for the information.. maybe somebody else will be able to help with my question.
We are sailing on the Wonder leaving out 8-21-08, and would really like to know. Just received my cruise documents, I am almost ready.

Those are Fantastic outfits! Mine & DW & Kids are mostly created from the Maryland Renn Faire over a period of a few years so they're pretty good too.

But to answer the question at hand. Both Ships do the Pirate Party. The Bandanas are your napkins at Dinner. I think I have about 20 or so now. I don't recall getting an eye patch.
