With late seating for dinner would we need to rush to get a spot on the top railing area for the show and fireworks?

Anyone with experience?

Disney Fantasy is the ship

The fireworks show is usually two hours after dinner, and there is really no reason why you wouldn't be able to be done with dinner in an hour to an hour and a half without rushing. You should have plenty of time to get up to the pool deck for the fireworks.

I am on the dream soon and I want to see the show that night and fireworks

what time should I book palo for ?

We've done late seating for our last eight cruises. No rush whatsoever. Plenty of time to linger over dinner, head back to the room and change (that pirate gear gets hot!) then head topside for the party & fireworks

...it depends. Last January on the Wonder, service took forever and we indeed had to rush for the Pirates show and fireworks. By the time we were up, the "good spots" were mostly all taken. Two weeks ago on the Dream, we had a private table, service was prompt and we had sufficient time to get a "reasonable" spot on the top deck. As of late, we have found the service on the smaller ships to be on the really slow side, whereas things are moving along on the larger ships. Now this may have to do with routine as the Fantasy and Dream are running pretty much the same itineraries and menus all the time.

We have always lingered over dinners and our servers know that we don't rush up for pirate night but lately it seems all service in the dining room is timed to get everyone finished in plenty of time to get up to the top deck for the party/fireworks. We linger and still can find a decent spot somewhere to watch fireworks. So if you want to have plenty of time to find a good spot, let your servers know and they'll try to adjust service for the night.

As far as what time to book Palo on pirate night, we book for about 7:30. That gives us time for our normal pre-dinner activities, we just skip the activities that are scheduled between the two dinner services plus it gets us out about an hour before our normal late dining MDR would.

We requested a private table but know its not guaranteed. If you are seated with others are you waiting on others to show up before you get served?
