pirate: Any help/suggestions on this event at the Grand Floridian?
I have my 9 and 7 year old going.
thanks!

I ask about it a couple of weeks ago and everybody raved about it. Everyone who responded children loved it.

I am planning on signing up my 6yo son for it in our April trip.

my 3 dd's, ages 9, 9, 5, did the cruise out of POR. The older 2 were disappointed in it. They said it was fun, but they were expecting candy and fake jewels as loot. They got a few little plastic things, like you'd get from a gumball machine, and some plastic coins, oh, and an eye patch. There were 2 boys about 7/8 who hung on their mother's and cried the whole time we were on the dock waiting to board. They said that put a damper on things because they were all waiting for them to start crying again after they got on the boat. They also said the cruise was over at 11:30, to be there at 11:15 if we wanted to see the boat come in. We got there at 11:20 and found my dd's in the lobby with 2 of the leaders, every other child had already left. For whatever reason, they came back early. The girls said they had fun, but I think it's really more for the 4-7 age group.

daughter loved it... there are two different ones... depending on when you are going. There is a haunted pirate cruise around the time of halloween that takes off at night... on that one they will also get thier picture taken witha skeleton and a mickey bandana... The day light version is more like a treasure hunt looking for clues.... I was told by the daughter that the night one is much better... You need to check on the schedule for it, they don't do either of them every day. You can also do a daylight one at the Carribean Beach resort.... the day one as I recall also provides them with a lunch/snack... not so with the night one.

The one I signed my boys up for is from the Grand Floridian...they better have some decent loot or my boys will throw someone off the plank!!!!:rotfl2:

Our kids did the cruise out of the GF on our last trip, and they loved it. The kids were given Mickey pirate ears upon arrival, and they did have a big bag of loot when we picked them up a few hours later. The loot was nothing fancy...small treasure chest, pirate eye patch, Mardi Gras type necklaces, candy, etc. It was one of the highlights of their trip.

I just started a thread about this and everyone raved about it.

I plan on sending DS to the GF one in March. I talked to him about it and he is so excited!

This is what my kid's were expecting. They were really excited after reading about the cruise here, it was really a disappointment. They didn't get pirate ears, they got a black bandana, which was off when I reclaimed them so I don't know where it went. The loot bag was a tiny thing, like they use at stores for marbles or rocks. The patch was a little paper thing, no chest, no Mardi Gras stuff, no candy. I chose POR because the cruise was originally scheduled for 11:30 and we thought we could grab a boat to DTD while the girls cruised. We didn't know until it was already booked that the time had changed to 9:30, or I would have switched to GF. Sounds like GF is the one to do, I'll remember that next time. DD's 9 will be to old, but dd5 will be 7 and the ds2 will be 4 so they'll be able to go. Sounds like the haunted one is even better, but I bet it's only offered around Halloween.

We have been on the one at the Grand Floridian twice, and my boys did enjoy it both times. The first time they got the bandanas with the Mickey ears, this was about 3 years ago, last October they only got a red bandana, and were a little disappointed, they really loved the ones with the ears. It also looked as if the gift bags had shrunk in size that they received. I always order some pirate stuff from Oriental Trading and make my own bags to give them when they get off the boat. Even the ride that day had changed, they used to stop at a shoe tree which had shoes hanging off of it and, but they didn't stop there that time. Had my older 2 not been on an earlier one, they wouldn't have known the difference. Overall, even with the changes, they still had a good time and would still recommend this activity for children.

I guess it really must vary.:confused3 Our kids went on the cruise at the GF in mid-October last year and got the stuff I mentioned in my previous post. They came off the boat with a lunch sack sized bag of loot, and they stopped at the shoe tree. DD thought that was the coolest thing.

Yal seem kind enough to answer my stupid question...what does DS, DD and all those abreviations mean?? I am so new to all this..but since you've been kind enough to get back to me about the pirate cruise..I thought you could help clarify all these abreviations:confused:

DD= disney daughter, DS= Disney son, GF=Grand Floridian You will slowly catch on to all the abbreviations.

I read in another post about the cruise that you can give the cast member a disposable camera with your child's name on it and they will take pictures for you. I am hoping this is so. I plan to have one ready for DS Thanksgiving Day cruise.

My DS (currently 9) has been on the Pirate Cruise ( GF) and the Albatross Cruise (YC) as late as when he was 8 yo. He loved both of them.

This year he and DD (5) are going on the Haunted Pirate Cruise.

what?! There is a cruise from the YC?! How did I not know about that...and a haunted cruise?! How fun!:yay:
