My step son has always been a pin collector, but our last trip, the entire family got involved! Now we're all fanatics. I just loved pin collecting and can't wait to get back to try and find some more of those hidden mickey pins.
Meanwhile, hubby and I have ebayed a few lots of pins and I started wondering how those sellers can afford to sell all of those pins for about a dollar a piece. The pins certainly seem genuine and the sellers we've purchased from are all top rated sellers.
I googled disney pin lots for sale. Eventually I landed on a Chinese site that sells pins for about 80 cents each. I think this is where these pins are coming from.
I've read a lot about the counterfeit pins and basically, these pins being sold out of China, are exactly like the originals. They have the stamps on the back, the front side looks the same.
They are keeping the original molds and printing more than is ordered by Disney and then selling them as original limited edition pins. I think they're impossible to identify as counterfeit because they are being produced by the original manufacterers in China.
Does anyone else have info or opinions on this? I love collecting pins, but if I'm supporting China by buying counterfeits from ebayers, I am going to have a hard time continuing with this hobby as I can't afford to buy the pins from Disney stores. They are simply too expensive.
