Okay, all you veteran pin collectors. How in the world did you get your pins thru security? My 11 year old is dead set against checking them, because they are her treasure! I can't see them getting on as a carry on. Anyone have any ideas?;)

We carried our in our checked luggage. I did not want to take a chance. The security was very tight in Orlando airport on our return trip. They were putting things through on the belt several times over. It was very secure.

Just try to explain to her since 9/11 the security is much tighter and mabe she should check her pins. It would be better to check them than to possibly have them confiscated (though I do not know if they would really do that or not)

My DH who flew in Feb was not able to take his pins on the plane in his carry-on. (They are HIS pins! He only has a few, but he treasures them. ;) This is a person who, a few years ago, hated WDW!) Anyway, the security person told him that while they were "very pretty" (LOL) , he could not carry them on. He had to go back to the check-in desk and check the pins. They gave him an envelope to place them in, and he picked them up in Orlando. On the way back, the pins were in his checked luggage.

...to orlando from dallas. in both airports, my pin bag (pin backpack) was searched and then put back through the scanner. they tested the bag for explosives in both airports and also had me remove my shoes for testing (standard practice now if your bag is searched, i was told).

all in all, it didn't take that long, but was enough of a hassle that i will be packing my pins in my checked luggage this time. of course, i'm not carrying all that many with me for the 7-night cruise, but nonetheless, it's one less hassle at the airport (especially if your dh is standing there saying, "i told you to pack them in the suitcase!").

We have flown out of Chicago several times since 9/11, and I've been allowed to carry my pin bag on each time. They almost always search it thoroughly and screen it for explosives, and they usually call a supervisor to make the final decision. I don't think my pin case would be sturdy enough to check, so what I do is put it into a small regular luggage bag, along with all my other carry-on items in a backpack. That way, if I was forced to check the pins, I could simply remove the backpack to carry on and lock them into a sturdy luggage bag. But so far it's never been a problem to bring them on with me. It MCO, they rarely give them a second glance.

We flew from LGA, New York to Savannah, GA, and from MCO to LGA again in February. I had my pin bag stuffed with pins in a back pack as carry on and had no trouble at all in either airport.

We used US Air for our travels.

Good Luck,

Thanks everyone, I'm still up in the air on what to do. You see not only do I have one that won't check, I actually have 3.... We will be going from Hartford to MCO in June for a 10 day trip to the world and will be on the Magic on Oct 5th sailing, hopefully we can solve this by then! Maybe I should just buy a ticket for the pin bags!:D
