The Pink Umbrella Project!!!! yaya!!!! lol ok so now im having trouble tryig to get the word out. so if u have any ideas post please!

Oh awesome!

Contact your local newspaper...

They generaly love having stories about kids helping in the community and it also gives you something to prove your work when colleges ask...

Create a website. (freewebs can help you there)

Print out fliers to put at school once you get your stuff set up so you can get volunteers.

What is your project about? Like, are you going to hand out toys, raise money to donate an ICEE machine, etc?

I would like to raise money or do something creative like make boxes of actictives that they could do while they are in bed or something.

Hah that's very cool. One piece of advice I have to give is that remember, Children's Hospitals aren't always children. They're technically for anyone under 18 as they're considered a kid. A lot of the times I got sick and was in there, a lot of the stuff was geared towards kids 12 and under. The teens had slim pickings activity wise.

Wow, thanks for the great advice. So when you were in there what was the main thing you were wanting. I was going to have like age groups for the boxes.

Mainly movies. Like movies geared towards teens, like Mean Girls or something. Sure, I liked Rugrats but I wasn't going to watch that all day.

Ok great thanks, so do u have any ideas i could besides raising money. Maybe something creative

You could have a garage sale where all profits will go towards your project.
Or You could have some of the children at the hospital make bracelets, and then you could sell them
Your charity sounds fantastick! Best of Luck To you!

Oooo i like it!!! any other ideas

Bake sales.
Charity jars in establishments if allowed.
Read-a-thon. You get someone to sponsor you, and you promise you will read X amount of books. Sponsor then donates money.

A lot of places have local tv channels. I know the one around here broadcasts a slideshow with a bunch of information (school lunches, dates, etc.). Maybe see about getting something on there.
Maybe, have people 'adopt' a child in the hospital. Come in and bring lunch once a week/month, play a board game, do whatever. I don't know much about it, though. You'd have to talk to other people.
You might want to go to local churches/schools/shelters. Even if they won't donate anything, they might be willing to at least mention something to their people.
Tell all of your relatives to tell everyone they know. Bonus points if you have someone in the beauty industry, or if Aunt Susie can tell her hair stylist as she's getting her hair done. Knit and bit... chats are good too, because people really do talk to people. People know people. People get the word around. And if Cousin Becky tells her knitting circle, and Laura knows someone who knows someone would care, and that person does something about it, that's still at least one person.

Good luck!

I love the adopting idea, I can't believe I forgot it.

You have to be careful with that though. Sometimes, I wasn't "allowed" to have anyone in my room, or I just didn't feel like having anyone there.
By allowed, I mean chemo made my immune system very weak. Weak as to the point no one save for the medical staff and my mom were allowed in my room. If I were to leave, I had to have a face mask.

Also, when you have a little money, make things like hats, bumper stickers, keychains, etc. People like to show off that they support things, especially if those things involve children. Even if they don't wear the hat, even if they don't use the keychain, people will still buy them. We're just stupid like that.

Another thing with the 'adoption' is that you wouldn't want people being left out. I know hospitals do this, but I'm not sure how. Depending on the size of the hospital, you could really lower the morale of the kids who don't get 'adopted'.

Field trips for the kids who can go out? Maybe take groups of them out to get ice cream? You could have them all wear matching tee shirts (if you have that kind of money) with the name/hospital. Ice cream and walking advertisement. Win win situation.

If you're really gutsy, get some taggers to graffiti the logo on some local buildings. Against the law, sure, but still advertisement. :)

Magazine sales, perhaps? Fundraisers are annoying for everyone, but people tend to order more magazines than they can read.

I can't really think of any ideas but good luck!

I know how tiring projects like this can be on students, especially during school. Hang in there, even if things don't go as planned or start to get frustrating. A lot of stuff are easier said than done. (Experience here...bake sale was a fail. lol And I think they said someone tried to steal from our donation jar. >.<) But definately not saying you can't do it, or it will fail. We had problems and sometimes just bad luck. It's completely an attainable goal. Get the school involved, in contact with the local newspaper and maybe news and radio stations?

You're doing a great thing. :goodvibes

thanks for all the great ideas so far! I love all the encourgement! I really like the keychain idea. who ever said that-THANK YOU!!!
