DD has a beautiful pale pink dress for her sophomore (high school) semi-formal, with silver accents. Her boyfriend's mother told him that he should get her red flowers. I think white. DD doesn't want pink because they might not match the pink of her dress.

DD needs to get a boutinniere (sp?) for him, and I think she should get one that matches the color she's getting (right?)...but I think that color should be WHITE. :)

BTW...this is NOT a big deal...any color is really fine. It's just that I think his mother is WRONG, and I'm RIGHT. :teeth: LOL (And whatever...I'm certainly NOT going to pursue it. She'll look lovely, no matter what :teeth: and both he and his mother are wonderful people.)

Oh, silly me...I just voted "other" myself.

This techie stuff...

I once got my date a silver boutinerre (SP). The florist spray painted a rose silver for me. It looked great and everyone loved it!

I voted for other, but pink would be my next choice. :)

I honestly would go with a mix of colors, but no red or pink. Maybe something with white and different shades of purple, and then her date should have something to compliment her flowers.
:daisy: :rose: :flower: :flower1:

edited to add ~~ I found this site with some pretty flowers just for prom, figure it would work for her dance too ... usa-flowers.com or if I can link this http://www.usa-flowers.com/prom.html

I think white and different shades of pink would be pretty. Definitely NOT red!

Definitely not red! (I really dislike red & pink together.) ;)

DS usually got something I've now forgotten the name of. The blossom reminded me of an azalea - except that there were several blooms on a single stem. They were small - he needed something on the small side as DIL is petite. They may have called it some sort of orchid - but was not expensive. The best part was that the main part was white with darker pink/purple accents in it. They were beautiful.

What about flowers in the lavender/purple category? Maybe even with white accent flowers or ribbon.

I agree...definitely NOT red. I can't even imagine! I voted white, but I liked piglet too's suggestions.

I would go with something that would really "pop" against the pink gown.

since her gown is pale pink - I would go with fuscia or something similar...will really stand out. White/pale pink flowers would get washed away in the gown and red just looks wrong IMO.

and the bout. doesn't have to match, per se...I would stick to classic white for him.

Not red. I don't like red and pink together. (Unless they are together on a box of chocolates on Valentine's Day. :D )

NOT RED!! Ick!

working in a flower shop for quite a few years, helping kids pick out corsages I would say you have a few options.

Pink - I would purposely go a shade darker, it will compliment, but not match perfectly, I wouldn't want that anyway

White - will work, white roses bruise very easily and can quickly look brown.

Lavender - lavender roses are very pretty and smell great

mixed - you could do mixed pastels, pink, white, lavender, etc.

Purple - dendrobium orchids can come in a beautiful shade of purple/pink that might look nice.

Good luck

oh, yes, the boys should match hers!!

Fuscia would look really nice too!

:) I voted other. I think a mix of soft pastel shades would look best, imo.

Oh how well I remember these days...

Having worked in a flower shop a few years, I would say anything but bright red. White is nice, but doesn't have much punch! I would agree, a mixture would look great! There are so many beautiful flowers to choose from.....roses (even have some w/pinkish tip), varigated mini carns, tiny dendrobium orchids in asst colors, asst. mauve astro lilies, all come to mind. Maybe silver ribbon to bring out the accents of her gown. I just did a wedding in gardinias (heavenly smell, but oh so fragile!).

Hope she has fun!

is right along the thinking of Gina2000 - add some lavendar with white and pinks - florist (if they are good) will have something to show you.

Take a few minutes and search the net, bet you can come up with some ideas. Okay, so they may be in silks but just adapt to whatever is available locally, when you find "just the right thing".

Why, of course, you are "right" you're the mother of the most beautiful DD that will be at the dance - the guy is just "lucky" she said "yes".

Hope it is a wonderfull night of fun and memories for all ;)

I would do something in shades of pink (from light to dark) with maybe a little white(but not too much), and a silver ribbon/bow.

Her date boutonniere(sp?) could be a pale pink rose(close to the color of her gown)with some baby's breath.

Of course, no matter, what, she'll be gorgeous!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had a pink dress and my dad got me white carnations with silver ribbon to accent.....very pretty IMHO.

Try Alstromeria...........these are the flowers that look like azaleas and come in several white/ white with pink shades. :D
