Pin Trading???

Hey Everyone!

I'm not even sure I'm posting this on the right board or not, but I thought ya'll would re-direct me if I did.

We are going in July (15-23) and I have been doing little things to get us prepared. One of the things on my list was to get some pins for my kids to trade. The last time we went to WDW was in '02. I had bought the kids lanyards and several pins then and they traded a little bit while we were there. However, I haven't read anything recently about pin trading and didn't know if it still happened or am I wasting my time in trying to find pins and then toting lanyards around the parks. I wouldn't take them to every park every day, but maybe a few times.

So, what should I do?

Yep, pin trading still happens. I plan on taking my pins on my upcoming trip. I would definitely bring it for your kids; its a fun activity and I think it teaches them manners, fair trading, and a good push if they are particularly shy.

Pin trading has continued to explode! But be careful if you buy them on ebay --apparently there are some Disney pins that are not made by Disney (I think the company's name begins with an "S" but I can't remember what it is) and they are of inferior quality and are not tradeable. Ebay does have a lot of legitimate pins, though, so just make sure before you buy.

Does anyone know the name of the inferior pins?

My kids love to collect pins. They collect the pins of all the rides they have been on. It is quite a collection. But they don't like to trade, they have pins from the time the pin trading started. Very sentimental for them. Also my son collects all the sports pins with the characters and my daughter is a princess collector. There is something for everything and everyone!

You are reffering to the Sedesma or sedoma pins.I know its one of the two...
Please do not buy these to trade they are not the cortrect pins.
Make sure that any pins you buy are official disney pins, If your buying from an ebay seller send them an email asking about them and they have to tell you.

I'm a little scared because I bought a couple of pins off of E-bay yesterday, but they were suppose to be cast lanyard pins - do you think they'll be okay? If not, I guess that can just be ones for the kids to keep.

Thanks so much for the heads up on the pin sale at Disney Direct! I didn't even think about checking there, I thought they would be more than I'd want to pay, but not now!! I'm stocking up!!!

One more question....please...

Any suggestions on the best places to take the kids to trade their pins?

My DS9 and DD8 did the pin trading for the first time last fall and loved it. We found the CM's will take any pin, even the inferior kind (I can't remember the name ). We purchased pins from ebay and some of them were bunk but the CM's still took them. We were completely novice traders and purchasers. My children only traded with CM's and other children. The CM's were extrememly kind and patient. Pin trading encourages interaction with CM's and other children . We will be trading again this summer.

CM's all over the parks and resorts have lanyards with pins. All are willing to trade if you approach them. You'll have no problem trading any of your pins.

Are there any inexpensive starter sets to get kids going in pin trading. I think our kids would enjoy it just for the fun of trading pins but it appears that pins are expensive for what they are. It seems that you would need around 5-10 to get started and that would cost somewhere around $40-80 just to get going. Does that seem somewhat expensive or is it just me?

I have a small (and growing!) pin collection, but have never done any trading. I think it would be alot of fun for the kids though and want to try it next trip.

Thanks eeyore45 -- I used the thumper2005 discount to save over $13! I bought 6 sets of a 7 Mickey series for $129. That's 42 pins for just about $3 each including tax!
