So I've collected some pins and I would like to do some pin trading when we go back to dlp next week. Never done it before.
So what's the rules etc? How many trades per person, where to go etc can I trade with anyone or does it just have to be cast members?
Any help or tips would be great, Thanks

The general rule at Disney parks is one trade per cast member per day. Also, check in the various shops in the parks as some will have a pin board available (most are not in plain sight).

From what I have read, Disneyland Paris is much like the original Disneyland in that while you CAN do pin trading, you kind of have to seek it out. We are taking a set of pins to trade, but won't go out of our way to do so if it indeed is similar to DLC.

At WDW you can't walk 10 feet without seeing a cast member with pins to trade. We were kind of discouraged at Disneyland in California. Took us 3 days to trade away 5 pins each!! :(

I'm sorry tweak89 about not being able to trade at Disneyland in CA. We have never had a problem trading there or at DCA. We go every year to Disneyland in CA. I usually buy a pins on ebay in a lot, 20-30. We keep what we like and then trade the rest. Have never come home without trading them all. They even have spots set up specifically for pin trading, like next to the arcade in Frontierland. I'm going to DLP in June and hope to trade there. Maybe not so many, but a few at least!

No trouble pin trading in DLP, made a few trades with CMs and other guests today.

Also did a trade at the Oxford St Disney Store with a CM yesterday

Be warned though, some CMs try to make up rules on the spot. They insist that they choose what to trade for or will tell you you can only trade for a pin of a certain size or a certain character. None of these rules are true, but if you don't comply they will refuse the trade. If they do don't bother complaining at City Hall or with a manager, they will tell you the CM was right.

Can you tell I am a bit bitter about this? ;)

That's good to know, I was planning on taking a lanyard with me when I go. I'm going to the London Disney store on my birthday before my DLP trip! Thankfully my friend and travel buddy is a fellow disney nut! :cheer2:

It's not that we couldn't, it's just that not many CM's had lanyards or pin boards. We read plenty of threads in the DLC forum so we kind of expected it, but it was still a little disappointing.

Likewise, everything I have read about DLP as far as pin trading makes it appear closer to DLC than WDW. As long as I can get a couple of unique pins I'll be happy.

Is it just me, or has pintrading been much less these days at Paris?

I remember back in 2008 or so, pinboards in most stores, at the end of Main Street all the tables would be occupied with pintraders.

I didn't really see those anymore on my last trips.
1 trip was in June 2012, brighty sunny day, and there was no one sitting at those tables every time was passed them.

So I'm I right in thinking that the pins will have to be similar size/price to trade or does it not matter?

It does not matter. It's nowhere in the official rules. But still some CM will claim it matters. As I said, some CM will make up rules on the spot.
