My dd's have been trading pins over the last couple of years and they really enjoy it but my older dd is not comfortable wearing a lanyard, especially with more than a few pins. (She also hates tags and wears her sox inside out.)

On our last trip she put a few "traders" on her disney hat but some of the CM's would not trade with her unless she had a lanyard, this was in FEB 05.

She was hoping for a belt or a fanny pack type of trading option so I told her I would post. Other than the book or the lanyard is there another "official" way to wear and trade pins while at Disney? We will be in the parks in 9 (dancin again!) days.

Thanks
TJ

No, a lanyard is not required. I stopped wearing one a couple of years ago. I usually carry some pins in my pocket for CM lanyard trading.

I can't imagine why they would require a lanyard. I have seen people trading off of hats and vests, but I have never heard a lanyard requirement. I usually wear a lanyard when I want to go trading, but I usually carry extra pins in my backpack. I guess one way around this would be to buy a thinner, softer, comfortable lanyard, like the ones that are often sold at Claire's or Hot Topic, put one or two pins on just to have something on there, but trade from the hat. Good luck with this. Maggie

A lanyard is not required.

We were at the parks last Sept and I ended up carrying my boys lanyards in my backpack. Went back in Dec and carried them in a fanny pack.

We just returned from WDW this past Wednesday (12 day trip) and I didn't have ANY problems with trading from a zippered CD case. I bought a cd "wallet" from Walmart prior to trip and put the pins in it. I carried it in my backpack and not once did I have a problem.

My DH and I ALWAYS had our pins on our hat. My DM uses a pin trading fanny pack that she bought at WDW last year.

I hate to ask, but did she have problems because they were Sedema or Propins? Although Sedema's are still supposed to be ok to trade, I've heard of "issues" with CMs with them.

Anyway, you don't need a neck lanyard (even some CMs use a hip "lanyard") and if you are taking a backpack, I'd recommend a CD wallet.

btw - if you don't get enough responses on this board, post over on the collectors board. Have fun trading.

Thanks everyone - I don't know why they would not trade from the hat, a little to "stunned" to ask. It was two different CM's at two different parks. I don't know what kind of pins they were but they were either purchased at WDW or traded for at WDW so I hope they were not the issue.

I like the idea of the cd case as well as the fannypack or "hip lanyard". She dosen't mind the water bottle strap, its lighter and thinner so maybe that is another alternative and it's Disney approved LOL.

Are the hip lanyards available for the general public or just the CM's?

I will pop over to the collectors board, thanks for the invitation it sounds like fun.

Thanks -
TJ

eta - If I could make something to clip onto a belt loop that would be Ideal. Perhaps I could make her a hip type lanyard myself but then I would still wonder if she could trade from it.... HUMMM..

I do the same with my daughter. She lost a lanyard with at least 12-14 Lanyard pins on it :sad2: She was about 10 at the time, she took it off in the bathroom, left it there, came out, I asked where it was, she ran in & it was gone! She saw a woman near the stall she was in but the women ignored her. This was at the bathrooms in the Premeire Outlet Mall. She had wanted to wear her Lanyard into the Disney outlet (buying more pins). I felt so bad for her, she was crying. She cried the rest of the night. Since then, tend to wear it for her, then carried it, now just pins in the pocket. That works the best (can't loose them off the lanyard & we have lost many that way too :sad1: )
PS I didn't leave her alone in the bathroom, she was at one end & me by the door waiting for her, so she really never left the "room" itself.... mean people out there if you ask me, especially if they see a child crying... I could't prove anything either...

I purchased a pin fanny pack last year off of EBAY and at Disneyland, they didn't have a problem with trading pins off it. Debby
