Ok, I am in need of help here. Since we have decided to make our vacations every year be to WDW. I am wanting to get into Pin trading, but I am not sure of how to get started. I know...BUY SOME PINS... but, should I start with a prepackaged "SET" of pins or get individual pins....

Is there a disney trading pin magazine out there...like they have for the football or baseball cards?

I have been on ebay, and the prices look pretty cheap compared to the park prices, But I still dont know if its a good deal

any help.....would help :rotfl:

Thanks
Charles, Val and Emmy

I personally get a pin and keep it because I love everyone I buy. But jusy buy lanyard and get started it really doesnt matter how you start. If you want to buy a set then you can its really up to you. A good site to look at upcoming pins is dizpins.com. And if you look at the limited edition ones they are usually the ones to buy. Well have fun trading!

Our family has not gotten into pin trading as much as pin collecting. If you want to TRADE, then start with a set. You want to have something that you don't really care to hang onto. You might want to start with a few of the same pins so you don't have to choose which pin to trade at first. The hard thing is that you trade and get the pins you want and then you don't know if you want to lose them so you don't trade anymore and then you just end up buying the ones you want. Start off with the cheaper pins. They are usually around $6.50 or so (at the park). If you want to go to a big trading place, go to the pin trading store in DTD. I've seen traders there with books full of pins.

Pins are made in editions....non limited, limited, etc. What edition the pin comes from will determine price. At this point I'm not sure that collecting pins is of any value, but a whole lot of fun. However, I'm not an expert, just a pin lover. Maybe someone else can give more info on it.

Another note...my sister ordered some off the internet for me for Christmas last year. It was a disaster, pins never came, they stated they were out of stock, she chose new ones, they never came. She had a hard time getting them to return phone calls and ended up just losing her money. Not sure exactly where she ordered from, but if you are going to do that online maybe check back here on the boards and see if anyone else has a reputable place to get them from.

My DD loves to trade pins. I get them from Ebay. Be sure to get the ones that are not sedesma as CM don't like to trade for those as they are cheap. I buy pins in lots not indivdually as shipping can then make them as expensive as the ones at the parks. You can sometimes find cheaper pins at the Outlet stores. Just make sure any pin you get has Disney on the back or they will not trade. Have fun!

My daughters want to pin trade on our upcoming trip. We bought 3 or 4 in the parks last year and we had a bunch hanging around the house - you'd be surprised what you can dig up. For example, we got a pin when we bought the snow white DVD, our sister in law gave the kids pins for xmas one year, etc...Then, I went out to eBay and bought a bunch of pins for as cheap as I could get them. I tried to buy from one seller to combine shipping. That saved on the overall per pin cost. I also tried to only get pins that if my girls couldn't trade, they wouldn't mind keeping. Which is why I stayed away from pin lots. For example, I got a cute RRC pin that I know my oldest will love since it is her favorite ride. I have gotten about 10 or so on eBay so I figure I still have a few more to buy so that they have a good stock when we go over Thanksgiving. I am thinking 10 or 15 each should be enough...

Try mousepinsonline.com. They are running a special right now. I just bought a bunch from them.

I have seen some posts about these pins at mousepinsonline. "Propins" I believe they are called? What is up with them? I know they can be traded but some CM's refuse to? Does anyone have any insight?

Hi -

We just got back about two weeks ago and my DS6 wanted to trade pins. I bought about 30 pins from mousepinsonline. They were awesome. I bought the "special pins" and I think they ended up costing about $1.75 each. It was a great deal as I purposely chose pins that he would not want to keep and would just want to trade them. Also shipping was incredibly fast!

Every CM took them and in fact the Propins are good quality. DS actually chose other Propins off of some CM's lanyards. My advise is buy a bunch of pins and keep them in a small bag so that when your child chooses one that they want from a CM you can just pull a "trader" out.

Let me know if you have any questions.

We got started because the first time we traveled to WDW two years ago, each room included a lanyard with one pin. We bought an additional lanyard for our other child, and so it began..... We aren't really "traders" either. Most of our pins were purchased as gifts, or just because we loved them. I know I won't trade 99% of mine. However, we each keep a couple of traders I pick up on Ebay just in case we see a CM with one of the type we collect. I collect Tigger, my oldest DD collects Villains, and my youngest DD collects mainly Tink. Even my DH talked about collecting when we go down next month. We have a lot of fun looking for our "perfect" pin. How ever you do it, have fun! :flower:

On a side note, if you do decide to buy a pin set to start at WDW, go to AK and buy the hat...there is a safari hat that is $38 and has 8 pins on it. They are all AK, but you can trade them anywhere...a better deal than the trader packs with lanyard you can get anyhere else...they are $49.
