Pin trading for 7 and 8 year olds- first trip- need advice!

I ordered a grab bag from Mousepinsonline today- thanks for the tip! You can't beat $1.75 per pin. :thumbsup2
ANd it will be exciting to open them and see which ones we get!

The cool thing was that we got some that the kids won't want, so they'll be happy to get into the trading thing.

I know they will love the pins from Disney store. I'm hoping that they get some good ones from the grab bag, but also al few that they won't have a problem trading.

I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions: how many pins is sufficient for each kid for their first trip?

I think if I put much more on my cc this week for Disney DH just might smash the computer:badpc: ;)

Thanks a bunch

Thank you... you phrased that much better than I did.

I'm new at this too. I ordered 25 pins for my 3 kids. Unless I find more money in the next few months, that will have to be enough.

;) Maybe stalk the Disney store. I got a set of three there the other day for $2.80.

BTW, where on LI are you? I used to work in Jericho.

DH, DS and I can easily trade 20 pins each every day of a trip. It really can get out of hand.

I got an order of 84 pins from Disney Shopping yesterday, and I have more in transit.

The thing is, there is NO WAY we can each bring 20 pins for every day of a 16 day trip. We're going to have to limit ourselves to fewer pins or not trade every day or something. I wonder what the TSA people would do if we tried to come through the airport with 960 pins?
Right now we have about 300 traders. I guess I'll just see how many more I can get before the trip and we'll have to make that work!

Kids love pin trading... and to be honest, it can be a great time for adults, too. However, it can seem a bit intimidating - especially if you've been reading information from "serious" pin traders.

Don't despair! Pin trading is for everybody, and as long as you observe some simple courtesies, there is no "right" or "wrong" way to trade/collect pins.

Here is a link you might enjoy, and that will defintiely help answer most of the questions that rookie pin traders might have.

If you have any more questions, ask here, or feel free to PM me. Remember, the point is to have fun!

Well, thank you very much! I spent some time on that one... pin trading is something my entire family enjoys. My wife is already wondering what characters she should purchase for our newest child (son, not quite six months old yet). Not that it will matter... since my older son traded away almost everything he collected during his first Disney trip. :)

You are welcome. I had thought only my older two would be trading, but my younger ones had a fit yesterday that they weren't going to do it. Think we'll get them each a couple of pins and see how they do

We have been 2 times sence we discovered pin trading. We have a few things we do so we get the most out of our expearance. We were given 2 landyards on our 2004 trip when we stayed at ASM. My wife and I bought 2 more for us. We bought some cheaper pins for trading. We only trade with CM's as there are people out there who will rip you off. People who have there kids trade with other kids. Beware of them. We all look for pins that interest us. Mine are Steam Boat Willie, cm pins and resort pins that we have stayed in. I have a couple steam boat willie pins ( hard to find). I managed to get the 3 cast member pins with each of the hitchhiking ghosts on them from the Haunted mansion. Our kids collect pins of there fav characters. My wife has a nice collection of the rides she enjoys, and old rides that are no longer there. We also buy some pins that we wantand don't trade them. They are just for collecting. Have fun with it but keep in mind it will cost you alot of money. In the last 2 trips we have at least 150 pins. Prices from 5 to 10 dollars on most.

I have no doubt the younger ones will enjoy it - and they will likely get a kick out of being able to trade with CMs that you can't (the ones with the green lanyards/cards).

As a family, we are pretty silly about the pin thing; it's almost like an all-day activity within a vacation. Everywhere we go, we look at pins. We all know what each other likes, and have a great idea as to what we all have, so it becomes something of a "team effort." The kids have sharp eyes, and have found more than one Tinkerbell pin for mom that she wouldn't have otherwise seen; likewise, we'll find a Chip or Dale for my son, or spot a cool Maleficent for my daughter from across a shop.

My son loves the rides at Disney, but he says pin trading is the thing he's most looking forward to doing again. :goodvibes
