Pin Girl's WDW 06 - 3rd Time is Charm Trip Report!/ Page 5- New Added 12/14

Thanks for all the Well Wishes. :thanks: Feeling better today! :cool1:

So on we go.......

Day 4 – Epcot – 3 More Disser Sightings. Sam Adams Beer Tasting, The Australian Wine Walk about Tour and the Sushi and Sake Tasting.

As day 4 dawned I can honestly say we were glad to be on our own. Yay! Not that we didn’t enjoy Al – but the package deal was slightly taxing. Anyway…we ate breakfast in the room – working our way through the yummy Green Grocer goodies and hopped the 8:00 Bus to Epcot. As I sat down someone said to me are you on Disboards? Yes we shared a Bus with Lori Kay! We chatted a little about the Dis and hurried off the bus to our destinations. Upon arriving at Epcot nice and early – we tried to get past the gate and as close to the entrance for Soaring as Possible. We headed over there and ran in to Lori Kay again! We got Fast Passes knowing we would want to ride it again and waited about 10 minutes. We rode First Class in the front row. If you get a chance to do this – it is a very different ride! We rode in the same row with Lori Kay and her friends which was really fun.

Here is Pic of us:

The next thing we wanted to do was Turtle Talk with Crush in the Living Seas. We walked up to do that and walked right on to the Nemo Ride which was in a soft opening. The ride is cute, You sit in shells like the Haunted Mansion and follow an abbreviated Nemo story through the aquarium. I would say 1-4 years olds or True Nemo fans go for it. When we got off the Nemo Ride the Turtle Talk with Crush line was long – so we walked around and decided to come back later in the day. If you just want to do Turtle Talk – the entrance to the Nemo Ride is the only way into the Pavillion. Walk till you see a cast member and they will let you out if you want to skip Nemo and go straight to Turtle Talk – (Which is what we did the 2nd time). We headed over to Mission Space and Test Track. Somehow on the last two trips we had skipped these rides completely – so they were on our list of “To Do’s”. DH Went to get a Fast Pass for Test Track and it spit out a Surprise Fast pass for Mission Space. Since my DS had gotten sick on it in a soft opening we had avoided this ride our last 2 trips. We went over and chose the mild ride. I have to say this was the only time all trip I was a little nervous about my stomach as the rich food from the night before had caught up with me a little this morning and while I was feeling fine now – I really did not want the ride to make me sick.

The Mild ride was fine – I would not do the stronger one. DH however, wanted to try the stronger one. Since it was a walk on I told him to go ahead and took a little breather on a bench in the shade. At this point it was getting close to 11:00 and we were hungry – so we headed over to the World Showcase. I headed straight for the tent that has the collector pins – and picked up a few as usually they sell out quickly. We then started to slowly walk our way around checking out what food items were being offered. We finally stopped at Australia as we wanted to try the Shrimp on the Barbie. It was served with a marinated salad which was pretty good. The actual Shrimp seemed a little anemic – the salad was good. We had the dessert From South Africa – a vanilla custard which was divine – but I can’t remember the name of it.

We then bought tickets for the Australian Wine Walkabout Tour at $7.00 per person. For $7.00 you get to taste 4 wines from the different regions. There were other free tastings that you had to stand in line a half hour before to get in that were offered in air conditioned rooms. I thought the portions were about the same – so I would advice skipping this and going to the free ones – unless you are really desperate for Australian wines. I am not saying it was a bad experience – just over priced.

We made our way over to the American Pavilion. (On a warm day this is going to be the coolest place in the World Showcase.) They were doing a beer tasting which DH was interested in. I thought the presentation was interesting and funny and I would recommend the tasting to anyone who is a beer drinker. DH was happy to finish my portions since I am not a beer drinker. For anyone wondering about these tastings remember you are at Disney they are not giving you large portions of anything. Tastings are small most glasses are miniature versions of what you would have at home you get more of a taste than an actual sample. This is their way of making sure things stay magical and don’t get out of hand. :drinking1 pixiedust:

We decided to try the $6.50 Lobster Roll at the American Pavilion which was a miniature hot dog bun with a Lobster salad on it. Pretty good. We tried Vanilla Gelato in Italy and listened to some nice music. I was disappointed they did not have pistachio which is my favorite. We cruised back over to the American Pavilion where we listened to the Voices of Liberty and kept cool. Finally 3:00 rolled around and it was time to head over to our Sushi and Sake Tasting in Japan.

I have been told the pistachio gelato is to die for! :woohoo: maybe you'll get to have it next time!

So glad to see you're feeling better. Look forward to hearing more on the trip!

Hi Pin Girl. Lovin' your report so far. Came over because of GMax's suggestion. :cool1:

We love MGM and usually end up doing 2 days here as we do all the shows (Muppets 3D Vision, Voyage of the Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast) plus we love ToT and RnRC. Still love the Great Movie Ride. DH loves the Backlot tour but I could take it or leave it. Gotta see Indianna Jones stunt show--Dh loves that too. It's hard to fit all that into one day because of the timing of some of the shows.

Can't wait to hear more about your trip! I hope TGF doesn't cause too many more problems. :rotfl:

Gotta Love Gmax! Always Recruiting New Readers LOL!
I have to say this trips fell for MGM was effected by TGF experience.....Thanks for your comments becasue i need to give is a more fare shake next time....

ME, an enabler?! Why that's simply not true. If it was, I would tell everyone to go back to look at PG's pictures again now that they are bigger. They really make you feel like you're there. But since I'm not an enabler, I won't! :snooty:

Hi PinGirl, can't wait to hear more about your trip. Between the story and pictures I feel like I am there with you.

Sushi and Sake Tasting

This is a pre-paid event. Disney offers several during the Food and Wine events – Ranging in price from about $40 on up to signature dinners. However you need to call the day they release the paid events to get some to them. Even though I called the day they released the events – I still did not get the Food and Wine Pairing in Italy. (Oh well there’s always next year….) 2 years ago we had attended a Food and Wine Paring in Epcot’s France which featured Georges Du Boeuf wines. It was 3 wines with 3 different food pairings and they talked a little about the region the wines come from and why the wines taste different. If you ever get a chance to attend one of these I highly recommend it as you learn about the food the country the production of the beverage

For the Sushi and Sake event we went up the stairs to the Teppanyaki Dining Room. There was a back room to the right of the entrance where they seated us. They were very well organized. They checked us in at a podium and called us by name in Group’s of 2’s to be seated at a table. We had really neat seat mates who told us they had been to this event last year and enjoyed it so much – they were back a 2nd time. The first Sake they served was Gekkeikan Sake – Chilled. There was a chef who prepared our food and a Sake expert who spoke about the sake. The Sake expert explained that the reason most sake is served warm in the U.S. is because of the poor quality that is available. Heating the Sake masks the poor quality. The sake was served Cold in a champagne flute. The first Sake was Serves with Tuna thinly slice and a special Wasabi illegal in this country smuggled in from Japan – which was very mild and had a food enhancing quality I had not tasted before in a wasabi. (We forgot to take pictures of the first course) When we took out our camera to take pics of the 2nd course we mentioned to our seat mates that the pics were for a message board. Yes – They too were Dis Boarders! – although Mike refers to himself as a lerker!

Here is a pic of Mike and Debbie:
MikeDebbie.jpg

I can’t remember what he said his screen name was. [Mike if you see this jump in and say Hi]. 2nd course was a junmai Sake – a sake of a little higher quality. This was served in a glass that looked like a large shot glass – and the glass sat in a wooden box with shaved ice. The 2nd Sake was served with a delicate sushi – one was beef one was a Japanese potato tasting similar to jicama (if anyone knows what that is) and the other was asparagus.

ss1.jpg

The 3rd Sake was served in a champagne flute – it was called Sparkling Sake. This was by far my favorite. It is delicate and lighter than champagne and slightly sweet but not as sweet as an Asti Spumante or a Ballatore. At the Happy Hour bar closest to my job it costs $15.00 a bottle and they are tiny. At your local wine store they run about $5.00 a bottle – in case anyone is interested. Ask for Gekkeikan Sparkling Sake. We tried a few others after we arrived back home but this one is consistently the best. It was served with a Vegetable Roll which had some veggies that were slightly sweet – so it was a nice compliment with the sake.

ss2.jpg

Over all we loved this tasting and would recommend it to anyone. After the tasting we headed back to the room. We were pretty full. When we got hungry we made sandwiches in the room and watched Heroes.

Lessons Learned:

1)Nemo is a Skipper.
Nemo was fine but we really wanted to see Turtle crush. If you do too – walk to nearest cast member take short cut.

2)The American Pavillion is nice and Cool on a hot day :cool1:
This is a great hang out on a hot day – remember it’s here!

3)Not all Food Samples are Created Equally
Italy had some of the best. Ask people what their favorite was – they will tell you!

4)Dis people are so Cool!
After the Sushi and Sake was over we sat and talked with Mike and Debbie about all kinds of things. We were I think the last ones to leave because we were chatting. Wear your Lime Green proudly and talk about Disboards openly!

5)The Tastings are pretty Filling – No dinner reservation needed.
2 Years ago we had a ADR after our Tasting. We cancelled it. This time we did not make one and snacked. Even if you don’t have food in your room – you can get by with a light snack from the food court at your resort after one of these.

6)I am having fun writing this Trip Report!
Even though it is a lot of work I am making new friends and enjoying the process!

PinGirl!! I almost missed your trip report. I'm quite relieved that the photo of the three of us is a good one. My DH and I also went to the Georges du Boeuf food and wine pairing 2 years ago at Epcot!! While I doubt that we were at the same one I'm racking my brain for what I can remember about our group. So far all I can come up with is that DH & I sat at the first table to what would have been the speaker's left and several younger people came in late and sat at our table. I also remember that they talked through the entire presentation which really irritated us. Wouldn't that be something if we were all at the same one?!?
