Piercings/Tattoos

Some people look at you differently once they know you are tattooed. My sister (55) is an executive assistant, college educated woman (In other words smart, funny, got it together) She has both arms heavily tattooed. She likes to show off her art. Now most people are curious and will ask about them, while others, both young and old look at her as if she is trash. The ones that get her are the retail women at places like Macy's and Neiman Marcus who won't wait on her. She gets asked alot if they are real.

As for me at 48 I have 7 tattoos and I'm planning on more. If you have a problem with that then oh well. They make me happy and I enjoy them. I don't tell or judge you by what you do to your body, so please give me the same courtesy.

dare I ask where they are?:rolleyes1

nosey aint ya? :rotfl2: :rotfl:

:rotfl:

Yes you can ask. Every single one of them I am okay with showing and wouldn't get arrested for showing in public ;)

10 are on my ears (5 in each) and 1 belly button piercing. Most don't notice my earrings so they assume I have more fun ones than I have :p I was just thrilled to be able to keep the belly button one during pregnancy. They are just expensive to get redone ;)

I personally have issues today with people getting tattoo's I have many, and I have had them for over 20 years. It bugs me that people these days get them as a Fashion statement. When for years people frowned apon what I had, due to the fact of me being a biker and hanging with Hells Angels. I do not like the "posers" as we call them.

and it is something that still bugs me today! I do not have them, "because everyone else does" and I am in my 40's. I got them when they were Illegal to get them where I live, we had to host tattoo parties in order to get them.

Aahh, the good ole days!!!

of course! everyone does these days!

So you resent everyone who has a tattoo, because they didn't get them when *you* got them, or for the reasons you got them?

My piercings are able to be hidden. So I don't have to worry about job interviews.

Depends on the type of interview. :rotfl: I was going to use the word in front of "interview" in your post, but I didn NOT mean that.

Awww thanks guys.

Yeah there is that mentality in the tattoo world. Just because you weren't an "outlaw" you have no reason to get a tattoo.

I do not judge anyone with tattoos or piercings. I am 28 and did have my belly button pierced at 18 and chickened out of a tattoo at 17. the piercing closed when my son was born at 21 and I am sooo glad I did not get that tattoo at 17 (it would have been the infamous butterfly). I do not have any tattoos and have no intention of ever getting one. It's just not for me. As I was growing up my mom told me over and over "ladies do not get tattoos" and this has stayed in my head.

fast forward to now, my mom just got her first tattoo in Vegas at 45 years old. She got a breast cancer pink ribbon with my grandmother's name, but it's just so odd to me after everything she said when I was growing up.

As an employer I would most likely not hire anyone with visible tattoos or piercings because my conservative clients would have issues with it. One of my employees has the lower back tattoo and on the occasion that it shows they always remark or gawk at it.

The majority of my friends have them and I seem to be in the minority in my age group. I usually like my friends tattoos and piercings. I really enjoy seeing the arm sleeves on some women and think it's interesting and edgy.

I think tattoos are best when you can cover them up on certain occasions, but to each their own.

THis is great!! So your Mom changed her mind? Where is her tat at?

I have wanted one for years. Over 10 in fact. I finally got my first one a bit over a year ago. Going for my second one next month.

I am a professional as well. My clients think my tattoo is pretty cool (those who have seen it).

I've been thinking of getting a second one.

I just can't decide what/where....:confused3

I think your first statement is why I don't really "like" tattoos (I DO see some really cool ones out there!) I know SOOOO many people who now regret their tatoo (like the PhD student I had - a genius really - who got a "Tramp Stamp" really early in the trend, when pants rode quite a bit higher. By the time everyone else had theirs, pants were all low-rise, so her tat hung up in the air WAY above anyone elses. She was SOO unhappy and embarrassed by it - a shame really.

I just know that no matter how cool I thought my picture of R2D2 looked that six years later I'd wish he were C3PO!:sad2: :lmao:

My DH hates them because he works in a prison and knows all the meanings behind the different facial and biker ones.....not a good connection there.:sad1:

I'm more a fan of things you can change your mind on and still have fun - like the mohawk I used to have in Howdy Dowdy orange!:thumbsup2

That's just as hard as thinking up a tattoo. I don't know what I would get, but I know at some point I want something on the side of my ribcage. I hear it hurts like a 'B' though. :headache:

Yeah, I know what you mean. My first one was planned for SOOOOOO long that I knew exactly what I wanted. The second one is still in planning (waiting on the drawing from my artist) but I know some of what I want (hibiscus flowers and a sea turtle - favorite place to be is in Hawaii....) SO I know I will still love it no matter what.
I think it is going on my foot, up the foot and the ankle....

I've got that covered too.;)

I've heard that too.

I have 5 tattoo's - my husband has (lemme think.....) 7, I think. Maybe 6. he has his eyebrow pierced, and long hair (which is almost always ponytail'd) and Ive been fighting a nose piercing for a couple years now. I have leftover holes in my ears as well... 8 in one, 4 on the other.

But the answer to your question is, I dont know.

I know some people might define him or I by such, but it's usually unfounded. He's a pretty amazing guy (and Im obviously as amazing! ;) ) We live in an obnoxiously expensive Chicago Suburb, travel a lot.... we dont use drugs, or drink.

I dunno.
