Pie

Well, for Thanksgiving dinner, we will probably only have pumpkin pie, and gingerbread trifle.

However, my family started a tradition about 12 years ago. We meet at my cousins house the night before Thanksgiving for Pie Night. My aunt's (who started this thing) reasoning was that on Thanksgiving, if you've done the dinner right, you are too stuffed to eat the pie until way later. So, we've devoted an entire evening to just the pies.

Last year, with several families there, we had over 30 pies. It's a wonderful night! We cut the pies into tiny slivers, and everyone can eat as much, or as little as they want. Kids are encouraged to try different kinds.

About 5 years ago, I started the tradition with DH's side of the family, and so each year I get 2 pie nights, one on Monday (tomorrow!!!) and one Wednesday.

For tomorrow's pie night I'm making pecan, peppermint pie, derby pie, cherry pie and eggnog pumpkin pie. For Wednesday's pie night I'll be making banana cream, Reeses fudge pie, and another kind.

I can't wait! :banana::banana::banana::banana::banana:

Did we get the eggnog pumpkin pie recipe? :cloud9:

YUM!!! But what is a derby pie? Never heard of that one. Do you have the recipes for the peppermint one and the reeses one?

Chocolate Pecan, Pumpkin and Chocolate. The funny thing is that we only have 4 people coming but everyone likes a different kind. :rotfl2:

This sounds like my Michigan in-laws, except that pie night starts about 3-4 days before Thanksgiving and is non-stop until Saturday or Sunday after. The pie:person ratio us usually between 1:1 and 2:1 (yes, I wrote those both correctly!) and there are the usual pumpkin, apple, blueberry, blackberry, dewberry, pecan (they can't hold a candle to Mrs. Tex!:lovestruc), plus bizarre things unheard of in Texas like rhubarb, green tomato, onion, and a few other atrocities that should never be mentioned in a family forum.:confused: I've seen years with as few as 40 and as many as 70 pies. There are, of course, no leftovers.

We're at home this year, but there will still be blueberry, cherry, and pumpkin, plus others will probably have apple and I wouldn't be surprised to see pecan too.

Ah.... p....i....e... mmmmmmmmmmmmm. :cloud9:

I'm making Pumpkin,Apple and Chocolate Mousse. :goodvibes
