Pictures at Anguilla dolphin encounter?

I would like to take pictures of my kids during the dolphin/stingray portion of this excursion. Would I be able to take pictures and then join my group? Not sure what I would do with my camera at that point? Would it be better to just sign up as an observer? Does it get hot outside of the water if you are an observer? Any shady areas?

Anyone else try to do this rather than purchase the expensive pictures they take?
