Picture window or porthole

Hi,

We're planning to go on the western cruise on the 12th March. We're looking at booking through cruisevalue.com, and they're offering either a guaranteed cat 9 with porthole or picture window, or a cat 8 which will definately have a picture window. Cat 8 costs $220 more. Is a picture window much bigger than the portholes?

We stayed in a cat. 8. The window is 4ft diameter (large enough for my two kids to stand in it). I've never stayed in the 2 porthole rooms, but from the outside they look small. If you want a window for natural light it appears this would work. But if you want one for a view, i would say go with the cat. 8. But if someone stayed in the other, they might be able to tell you more info. Hope this helps

from what I understand the cat 9 on deck one have 2 smaller portholes. The cat 9 on deck 2 (which is where we stayed) had one large porthole. There was plenty of light coming in the large porthole. There was room for both kids to look out without fighting.

We just returned and had rooms 2648 & 2646 - both Cat 9 rooms on Deck 2. We had the large port hole window and they are the same size as the the other windows on board (with exception to the 2 smaller ones on deck 1)

I would personally save the money and request a Cat 9 midship - Deck 2. My kids could still see into the water and watched sea turtles swim by!

Hi,

Thanks for all your help I've decided to pay the extra, the company I'm buying the cruise off can't guarantee I'll get a cat 9 on deck 2, it could just as easily be on deck 1, and I'm not much of a gambler. So it looks like we'll be on deck 6, cat 8
