PICS of Mission Space Queue changes - taken May 19 EMH EPCOT

I did not go on MS as I was feeling a little "off" the night we were there. However, my DS12 who pukes at the drop of a hat insisted on trying it. (He takes Drammamine each day at WDW). After the 1st ride w/ his dad, he insisted on riding another time alone (immediately after!) I asked him if he felt queasy at all and he said "no way..it was AWESOME!". Then he convinced his scaredy cat younger brother (10) to ride. He also loved it and did not feel sick. It was almost enough to convince me to ride!!!

I think it is good to have both versions, but hope people will try the intense one...it may not be as bad as they think! I will be trying it on our next visit. Hopefully the original version will still be there.

IIRC, they have four centerfuges, so they should always be able to keep one spinning for the intense version. I also wonder how long it takes to "move" one centerfuge from intense to wimpy or vice versa - if it is only a few minutes, the M:S could be responsive to guest demands. "Hey, the 'intense' line is getting quite long, Sue - let's move 'Fuge #3 to intense."

I would assume it's as easy and fast as flipping a switch. No way for me to know though unless a CM who has worked it stops by in the thread. :D

I rode Mission Space "Less Intense" tonight - I really liked it! But I might add, I have a hard time with the intense Mission Space. The pressure it creates usually gives me a slight headache for hours, and makes my stomach feel somewhat quesy for a couple of hours, too. So I am one of those people who are happy for a less intense version! :)

When I got to Mission Space, they ask you which version you want. Then they handed us a flyer explaining the ride - green means less intense, and orange means intense. Sorry to report, but the singles line is not being used at the moment with all these changes. The "less intense" line had a 20 minute wait, the "intense" line had a 5 minute wait!

So I board into the "less intense" version. It starts the same, as you feel yourself point towards the sky. The blast off still has some movements and just a touch of pressure (it's not completely gentle!), but nowheres near as intense as it used to be. The ride still mentions you being in "zero gravity" which is a joke since you are just sitting in your chair, feeling nothing! Guess it would be hard to edit that out. The rest of the ride was similar to the original, with plenty of jerky movements here and there, but not that spinning pressure feeling. But still, I could tell something was missing.

For someone like me, the less intense version is great! I must admit that I am one who can't even ride airplanes since I get so sick, so for those like me with bad motion sickness, it's great! I didn't plan to even go on Mission Space ever again since it makes me feel so bad, but this less intense version is great for me! :)

Did you notice how they were handling FASTPASS for the less intense version? Was it just one FP for the whole ride, and you selected which version you wanted after you returned in the FP line, or could you pick the version you wanted to ride when you first obtained the FP?

From what I could tell, I saw people coming through the Fast Pass line, holding these flyers they hand out. So I guess when 1st getting into the Fast Pass line, people were asked which version they wanted, and then were handed a green paper brochure/flyer for gentle, or an orange paper flyer for intense. When they arrived at the top of the Fast Pass line, the CM could tell from what paper they were holding as to which line to send them from there. So it appeared that the two versions started in the same Fast Pass line. I could be completely wrong here, as I didn't actually go through the Fast Pass line, so forgive me if I got this all wrong!

The CM did say that they are still working on everything, and things can still be changing alot! And there may be some official "grand reopening day" of the new version of the ride in June or something like that (though the ride is certainly open now!) :)

I just posted another pic of a general flyer they are handing out at the front gates of EPCOT which fully explains BOTH versions. I just took this here on my last day at WDW May 21st and added it to the other pics.

If you enjoy the Disney podcasts on the network where the pics are posted, register and join in on the fun over there. Here's the link to the new pic along with the others...enjoy:

Got a chance to ride the "lite" version and was REALLY bored with it. I do see how this is a GOOD thing though...TONS OF PEOPLE were riding the lite version while the "scary" version queue was just about empty.

I think all the negative press and warnings posted EVERYWHERE are just scaring people to the green side or lite version.

Crazy how much psychology is involved with this attraction.

Thanks for your update, looks like I'll be spending more time at MS than ever, riding the original for myself and then going on the new version with DW, so we'll need to plan a longer period for this area of Epcot. Thanks again, and enjoy your trip.

Im confused. How does the line actually work? I understand that you get a flyer and choose green or orange. Are there actually two seperate lines to get in or does the line split at one point. Just trying to figure out how this will work in the summer when the crowds are heavy. It sounds like the less intense version is more popular at the moment. I hope I don't have to wait behind people going to the less intense ride before the line splits while I want to ride the original that has a shorter line at the split.

See the pic with the two seperate lines...they just split you according to what ticket you are holding...the line on the left is for less intense riders...see how freakin LONG it is compared to the one all the way on the RIGHT? That's the regular version :)

Yeah but that is where the line split originally to seperate you into groups for your chamber before the change was made. Is it just one line before that point like it always was or are you in seperate lines through the entire que? If it is the same que setup as before then it seems to me that some people may be waiting far longer than they need to be waiting in the buisy season depending on which 'ride' they want.

Experienced the exact opposite with the lines today! The line for the green "no spin" was only 5 minutes, the regular version(with spin) was 30 minutes.

My review of the new light version- I loved it! I thought it was going to be really lame but it was fun. My DD is a real trill seeker and loves the original but she also enjoyed the new light version too. I think Disney did a great job with it and I like the idea of 2 versions being available.

I've never been on Mission:Space. Is the "barf/hardcore" version really even that bad??? I've been on some pretty badass coasters throughout my life and I cant fathom Mission:Space being any worse than any of them... Whats the big deal? :rolleyes1

Is there any motion sickness simulator movements with the "lite" version, similar to Star Tours or Body Wars?

I like MS as is but I will try the lite to see what its like and probably bring my 6 y.o. on it.

If Star Tours bothers you then I think the "green team/no spin" Mission Space would too.

The reason the green team wait was so much longer on Friday was that they had two centrifuges running orange and only one on green.

I was surprised how good the green version is. It does capture the essence of the original quite well, and most people seemed very happy with it. This is great for people who cannot or don't want to do the orange (original) version!

I am pretty sure the queue is seperated before the split point only between fastpass holders and non fast pass holders. After the split point, there are three lines...Orange, Green, and Single rider??? I could be wrong on that though...about 80% sure that's right.

I'm a chicken too, but when my fiance and I went in 2004 I was determined to try the ride! I took bonine that morning and made sure I followed the directions in the ride. I ended up feeling fine after the ride and I thought it was awesome!! I'm very glad I did it and will go on it again this Oct. Can't wait to try the new version too!
