Pics Galore!!! April 2007 trip report, first time onsite!!!

I'm enjoying your report - and your pictures. We were at POP a few weeks before you.....

SO, we left off with our snack at Tangerine Cafe in Morocco at World Showcase. We split a Lamb Shawarma sandwich, which was delicious, and chillaxed with some Mo'Rockin music and dancing. We had adr for Boma at 7pm so we decided to head for the exit and the bus. On our way through the Outpost, we stopped and watched the wood carver do his magic. Sher had me make a wish, so I dressed up and did so!!!

DSCF2422.jpg

wish came true!

Since Disney's bus works on a hub system, we were able to grab a direct line to Animal Kingdom Lodge without any transfer. I think we stopped once at Blizzard Beach, and then we arrived at AKL. Total time about 16 - 18 minutes. We were really diggin the bus service!

Like I said, our ADR was for 7 but we arrived at AKL around 5:45.....we needed refreshment. That African sun is hot!

DSCF2439.jpg

We toured the resort and made our way eventually to Victoria Falls Lounge. This place was great, very comfortable and delicious drinks.....I got a Tusker Lager....

DSCF2451.jpg

and shrimp....

DSCF2438.jpg

both awesome by the way!

And Sher got something that would go on to go down in history as "BEST.DRINK.EVER!" The Pina Colava!

DSCF2459.jpg

We could smell the food drifting up from down below....

DSCF2440.jpg

but Sher was enjoying her drink so much that we handled the wait like real grownups!

DSCF2468.jpg

At about 6:30 I got the check and paid up...

DSCF2434.jpg

afterwards, we headed downstairs to check in.

More to come soon!!!!

I brought my own drink to enjoy while reading your trippie,

Hope you don't mind??!!

Lovin this TR! You are Sher are so cute together and your pics are great! I have almost the exact same picture of me with Lady and DFi has one with Tramp. Anyways, can't wait for the rest.

Hey, I just wanted to say I am in Buffalo too!
Let's go Sabres! :cool1: We will be at the game tonight!!!:thumbsup2

We checked in at Boma's at around 6:45 and got paged 10 minutes later. Our table for two was right on the window and was very secluded and romantic.

DSCF2469.jpg

Our waiter gave the run through on the place. If you have never been, Boma is an african word for a secluded area surrounded by pickets. Safe for grazing! The food stations are not a typical buffett type steam table. The food seems so fresh and it is probably due to the huge crowds that eat there.

DSCF2479.jpg

We ordered a couple drinks...I got another african beer and Sher got a tropical fruity drink....

DSCF2466.jpg

We sipped our drinks and chatted about the uniqueness of the place. Once comfortable, we made our way to the soup table!

On the menu they had some Lamb stew, a curry chicken soup, a seafood type stew and butternut squash soup.....I snapped a pic of the empty bowl!

DSCF2472.jpg

This stuff was like crack. The best soup I have ever tried (at least until we returned to Boma 6 nights later!)

Here is the recipe . Butternut Squash Soup

We tried some salads and the Mango Vinaigrette was the clear winner, yum!

DSCF2473.jpg

Also in the pic above, the curry pasta salad was terrific as well!

We grabbed some african breads and the yummus hummus as it came to be called!!! Three different types of hummus, including a red pepper, a white bean and the third is gone from my memory...they were great but a bit salty after a while....

DSCF2471.jpg

In between courses we watched the kids at the other tables and they were really enjoying themselves....this place is a great kid friendly eatery....I noticed the kids had their own grazing station full of chicken fingers, fries and other kid friendly items. Most of the families we watched were, to their credit, encouraging the little ones to try some of the unique offerings.

Ok, we were ready for some of the meat and veggies! First I got a plate of sirloin, salmon, bobatie and a crusted prime rib....

DSCF2474.jpg

I loved the bobotie, (a very sweet tasting shepherds pie like dish) and the prime rib. The salmon was pretty great as well.

Sher ate off of my plate and we were quite satisfied....we couldn't say enough good things about the bobotie.

The service here was outstanding, they were quite attentive to our drinks and empty plates were whisked away with little supervision. I had a couple more beers (which are really quite tasty, almost like a microbrew) and we proceeded to the desert table.....

DSCF2480.jpg

The chai tea rice pudding was just ok, the banana bread pudding was great, I pured the chocolate rum sauce over it (of course I did!). The zebra domes are everything you've heard and more! Argh, getting hungry writing this report........

I especially loved the chocolate cannoli's!

DSCF2486.jpg

We were pretty satisfied and decided to call it a night. It was close to 10pm so we toured the unique gift shop before hitting our bus stop for the quick and painfree ride home!

While waiting for the Epcot bus at AKL we noticed a family sitting at the MK bus stop. Since I am a card carryin member of the disboard, I remembered that MK had closed at 7pm due to Grad night. I struck up a conversation with them and explained that I was pretty sure MK was closed and that they may be waiting for a bit! The Epcot bus pulled in and Sher and I boarded. The family came up to our bus and asked the driver if MK was open and he said, oh yes, it is open! I told him I was pretty sure it was a Grad night and to double check. Sure enough I was right! Thanks DIS! I got to look like a super hero in front of Sher and this family!

Loving your TR.:cool1: I think I'm going to call and make ressies for Boma. We are on the dining plan but I will have to pay OOP. Well worth it!

On your painless ride home from Boma did you transfer at a park or Downtown Disney? How long did it take?

Love your Tr its so much fun to read. You guys look like fun people to hang with.:thumbsup2 . We're leaving in 8 days.WOO HOO

Can I just say how much I love the food pix!!!!!!
Thank you so much.

Boma is on the ddp. One table service, same as Ohana's I believe.
We took bus to Epcot (EMH Evening) and transferred there.....very painless.

Yes go Sabres!

Enjoyed and subscribing ! :cool1:

You are so lucky! I wish we were returning, we have 330 some days before we get to go back, YUCK!

Thanks for the comments!

Totally enjoying this TR!!! I too was in the World last week. But my writing sucks, so no TR from me.

Ok so we have arrived and are both marveling at the resort. Since this is a first time stay onsite we are both super excited. I go and line up to check-in and Sher heads to check out the bathroom. Why do they only have three people working the registration desk when there are 30 people in line??? Needless to say, the wait was quite long but worthwhile as we got our room (king size bed and everything!) assigned. The room was not ready so we had to check our carry-on bags with luggage assistance and head to MK! Quick stop at Everything Pop and Sher got herself some Crocs....disneyfied!!!

DSCF2256.jpg

DSCF2312.jpg

The bus was empty and the ride to Magic Kingdom was heavenly. It took approximately 12 minutes and they dropped us off right at the gate! NO TTC???? NO MONORAIL??? Yeehaw

We immediately headed to Casey's for lunch! Hot Dogs and Cokes. Sher got a tonne of Saurkraut on hers

DSCF2269.jpg

I am going to include some dining reviews in here. Hope you guys don't mind too much. The hot dogs were delicious after a long trip and nothing to eat but continental breakfast. What do they put in these things? Man they were awesome.

After the dogs we went and saw Philharmagic. Sher had never seen it before and absolutely loved it.

DSCF2275.jpg

We did a bit of walking around and then grabbed a dole whip. We had them last year and Sher had been talking about them for the past 11 months. Obviously they were yummy, I mean it's pineapple mixed with ice cream substance, whats not to love? (we had a 7pm ADR at Ohanas but could not resist the pineapple goodness.) Did I mention the pineapple? Wow.

Pics galore, I am so in!!:thumbsup2

We will be staying at Pop in 3 more days!!:cool1:

When I saw the pic of POP, it made me grin from ear to ear!!

This will be our first stay there and super psyched!!!

I love the pic of your dog and those bugging blue eyes...So cute!!!

I love that pic of the airplane....so cool looking with the reflection from inside in the glass.....

Great report!!

So...recap....we just left Contemporary for our 7pm ADR at Ohana's. I always go to Ohana's for the first sit down meal of the trip. I love the atmosphere of the Polynesian and to me it feels very 70's, but in a very nostalgic and comforting way!

DSCF2331.jpg

Since we arrived a good 20 minutes early we checked out the gift shop and the waterfall. The resort has such a unique smell and feel that I can just sit in the lobby and people watch for hours!

We checked in about 10 minutes to 7 and asked for a window seat....the CM said we may have to wait, told her no problem....we got time. They gave us one of the pagers and we grabbed a seat in the Tambu lounge. Unfortunately the live entertainment hadn't started so we chatted and tried to decide if we should order a drink. 2 minutes later our pager went off and we were taken to our seat....

DSCF2358-1.jpg

Our server was Cousin Drew, and he was on! What a great guy, he got us right into the drinks. We ordered a Lapu Lapu and a Malibu Monkey(i think) The lapu lapu came in the pineapple and a side glass! The bartender "accidentally" made too much! I swear our server was trying to get us drunk!

DSCF2350.jpg

DSCF2340.jpg

Usually I find the Lapu Lapu a bit strong but tonight it was perfect! Sweet but with a nice kick. The Malibu was spot on as well. Sher excused herself to go to the bathroom so I put the watch I had bought for her on her placemat.

She got back and was quite impressed with her minnie and mickey watch! She made some promises and other arrangements that I have to leave out of this trip report...sorry!

DSCF2339.jpg

The meal came and it was absolutely perfect. Everything was hot where it was supposed to be and cool when called for.

Salad - Honey Lime Dressing....ummm yumm? Yikes this stuff was good. When I walked by to hit the bathroom I saw them preparing the salads....the were dumping ladels full of the dressing on each bowl! No wonder it was sooooooo good.....

I love shrimp. Sher only eats them cold and with cocktail sauce so she abstained. *Sidenote here* Every year I accidentally stuff myself with shrimp and then spend the next 4 hours doubled over in agonizing pain. This year I promised to take it easy.

DSCF2343-1.jpg

The scalloped Maui Potatoes. Holy crap. Best Potatoes EVER!

DSCF2345-1.jpg

We were getting thirsty again.

Ordered a beer for myself and Sher had another LAPU!

Then we ate some more. Chicken Wings!!!!! YUMMMMMMMMM

DSCF2344.jpg

We were both stuffed and the meat skewers hadn't made a showing yet! What do we do? We begged Cousin Drew to give us a minute to digest which he gladly did! He was working until 10pm so he told us to take our time. We chatted with him about the place and he told us a great story about a group of CM's that he joined for a night of drinks at Ohana's followed by a late night excursion at the Magic Kingdom. He said it was fun for the first hour but due to the dry nature of the MK soon the buzzes wore off and the headaches sunk in....

Sher was too full for skewers so I dug down and found some hidden reserve and got some steak. It was really good. Just cooked perfectly for me. Had a really nice wood grill taste to it.

Cousin Drew was getting close to the end of his shift so we got the desert and bill. Since we did not do the dining plan we paid and I think it was $110.00.

Thanks for the meal, little wood guy! Notice the groovy hat I bought! Love that hat.

DSCF2363_edited-1.jpg

Hey Sher, How did you like the meal???

DSCF2366.jpg

Up Next - Magic Kingdom - Open until midnight!!!! We are both a bit tipsy so decide that roller coasters and flume rides are in our future!

Food looks great!! In one pic, you can tell how much Sher likes that drink...she looks in heaven!!:rotfl2:

BTW....why didn't you do the dining plan? It is such a great deal:thumbsup2

One question, how do you eat all of that food and those tasty desserts while drinking all of those beers and tropical drinks?

I would have been stuffed after one of those huge tropical drinks.....

No problem for us! We really ate slow - we were at Boma for almost 3 hours!

Love this Trip Report. Looks like you had a blast. :)

We did, so much fun. Looking back I can't believe how much stuff we did! As you shall see!
