We are sailing on the Magic in January. It will be our 2nd cruise; the first was on the Fantasy. When we sailed on the Fantasy we booked last minute (2.5 weeks out), Verandah, and we didn't get to pick our stateroom. It was GTY (or something like that, still not clear on those.) It was 5C and we ultimately got a room the was 5A. Loved our room, no issues but clueless about diff bewteen 5C and 5A.

On our January 2018 Magic cruise we booked a Deluxe Oceanview bc I figured it would be cooler outside. Picked a room that is forward (last cruise was forward and no issues), deck 7, 7014 (there weren't many choices). I don't know what category it is (5A, 9B - i don't know what they all mean.) What's the best way of going about picking a good room? The PIF date is still a couple months out and I figure rooms will open up as it gets closer. We are a family of 4, with 2 young children. TIA!

I believe deck 7 oceanview are category 9A. We have done both 9A (on deck 7) and 9B/9C (on deck 2). I actually prefer the ones on deck 2 to the ones on deck 7. For oceanview, I really like being close to the water. At night, the light from the ship on the water is something I enjoy. We didn't get the same effect from deck 7!

Glad to hear the positive on Deck 2 Magic. We are Oceanview deck 2 this Oct on the Magic. I was a little worried, but the more I hear about deck 2, the more I feel at ease.

I was on Deck to on Dream s few years back but that was an inside room. But, I feel an cabin is a great cabin, as long as it's on a DCL cruise!!!

We chose 2010 last year because it was under the piano bar so pretty quiet even at night. We loved it and so we've booked it again. Forward was good for us, and just a couple of flights of stairs up to all the activity and to get off for port adventures. We also found getting a lift up to the deck easy. So I liked Deck 2 but if someone offered me a verandah upgrade I wouldn't say no :)

So sorry, to reply to the original question, I would recommend looking at deck plans, see what is above and below the available rooms. I think this can make a big difference to noise etc

We LOVE the deck 2 ocean views on the Magic and Wonder. Great view, and what convenience for everything (lots of happenings on deck 3). We like to be in the back third of the ship, the elevators and stairs there are convenient to just about everything you would want to do.

If you don't mind me asking, which cruise in Jan, 2018? We're also sailing on the Magic in the same month with our two kiddos. We sail on 1/3/18 :flower:This will be only our 2nd cruise, and our 1st on DCL (except I hardly even consider the first cruise "an experience".) I'm learning so much from all these posts. :D

This is a great idea, thanks. Will take a look at deck plans.
