they are already dead. if the oyster was real they wouldn't be that color and it wouldn't be that easy to shuck. My cousin and i were in downtown disney and watched it. we both eat oysters on the half shell. my cousin from italy eats them all the time and shucks them too and says that if they were alive they would be a different color and hard to shuck.

Please be aware that it is possible to get a pearl that is less than perfect. I've seen it happen a couple of times. I remember one guy in particular who was very disappointed. The pearl lady called it a twin, but it was actually two pearls hooked together. It wasn't attractive. Another time, one half of the pearl was oddly shaped. Neither time did they offer to give the person a different pearl.
