Pick a Pearl Epcot

What is this?

They have a little pool with live oysters with pearls in them. You are guaranteed at least one pearl, no telling what size or color, possible to get two pearls. They make a little production out of you picking your oyster and them opening it. They clean it for you and you can buy a setting there or not.

Prices may vary by location, but the basic choosing of the pearl costs about $16.00. Not surprisingly, having the pearl set increases the cost considerably.

What are some of the settings like?

There are lots of choices. Some of the more popular settings are silver rings or pendants with a pearl mounted as a decorative element. A basic silver ring starts at just over $30, as does a basic silver pendant (chains are extra). Price rise steeply as the settings get larger or more elaborate. The least expensive setting option would be adding posts to create stud-style earrings. This starts at about $10.

You can also purchase pearl holding necklaces on line for a lot less money than at the park. Just get the pearl, plop it in your necklace. Instant wearable souvenir.

Pick a Pearl in Epcot is one of my fondest memories. I picked one and 2 of my children did as well. We had to wait about an hour until it was our turn because it was so popular. I bought Cinderella's carriage there and a chain when I got home. I love it. It's one of my favorite pieces of jewelry and every time I look at it, it brings the magic back.

I absolutely loved the pick a pearl experience at Epcot. There are other locations, but they don't make a production out of it at those. We did this in 2014. I picked 2 oysters, 1 was a nice 7.5mm and the other was twins! I got cage carriages on etsy for all of them- kept larger one for myself and I gave the twins to each of my 2 little nieces in a carriage cage necklace. I would love to do it again, so worth it!

I did the pick a pearl on our last trip, and I had my pearl set on a plain silver band. When I got home, I decided it stuck up too high and had it reset by a jeweler on a pendant.

I just did this last Friday. The pearl was $17. The type of setting available (if you want one) is dependent on the size of pearl in your oyster. I had mine set as a pendant with a small "diamond" above the pearl and an 18" chain. It's so beautiful. After you purchase the setting, they ask you to come back in, no sooner than an hour to pick up your jewelry.

I've been wearing my pick a pearl ring everyday for 6 years. About a year after I had it, the pearl came off, a friend was heading down for a vacation, I sent the pearl and the ring back down with her and they fixed it for free. It's been perfect ever since.

We did this last December about 30 minutes before they closed, only 1 group ahead of us in line. We ended up with the top 2 sized pearls of the day, 8mm and 8.5mm. We got cages on etsy.

I just ordered my girls' cages from etsy! They will ship to my resort since we leave Saturday! I'm so glad I saw this thread! Excited!

Are there less busy days/times to do this? :) Thanks!

Right when the World Showcase opens, it's pretty light for the first half hour to an hour, and then right before the World Showcase closes it dies down a little too.

HOWEVER... even if there is a crowd, still ask how long the wait is. The one time we did it, there was a crowd, but only 3 people ahead of us that actually were participating. People like to watch, but aren't necessarily paying and waiting to play.
