Photoshop Elements

My uncle had to rebuild his computer and had to put Microsoft vista in his computer. Can he use photoshop elements 5.0 or is there another updated version for microsoft vista. Thank you ahead time for your help.

A trip to the Adobe website reveals that PSE 6 works with Vista:

Adobe Photoshop Elements - System requirments
Intel® Pentium® 4, Pentium M, or Intel Centrino® 1.3GHz (or compatible) processor
Microsoft® Windows® XP with Service Pack 2 or Windows Vista™
256MB of RAM (512MB recommended)
[. . .]

As for Version 5, it is (of course!) near impossible to get the Adobe website to even acknowlege that there ever was an earlier version of the program, but I did stumble upon one article for PSE5 which mentioned that a minimum of 512MB of RAM was needed for the program under Vista. So, I would say that PSE 5 is expected to work under Vista.

Thank you so much I will pass this on to my uncle.

Can someone please help me decide which is better version 5 or 6? I am creating digital scrapbook pages and wondering if they are the same . I am familiar with version 5

I have PS CS and it works with Vista just fine (not a Vista) version. All of the software I was told by a Bestbuy employee that would not work with Vista works just fine.

PS CS
Paint Shop Pro
Arcsoft Photo Studio
MS Picture It! . . . just to name a few. . . .

I have PSE 5 & 6 and I use Vista. Both versions work fine with Vista. I have been scrapbooking for over 10 years and switched to digi scrapping last summer after attending a class. I have had a hard time using PSE 6 until recently. I purchased a book "The Missing Manual: Photoshop Elements 6" by Barbara Brundage. She explains how to do what I want in PSE 6 so I have shifted over to using 6 most of the time. If I need to use Noise Ninja I have to go back to PSE 5 because I don't know how to move it to 6! If anyone can help, please let me know.

I prefer 5 over 6. The interface is much darker and it is hard to see the menu items in 6. There are a few things that work much better in 5.

I use both in Vista with no problems.

Thank You for your input. I am sure my uncle will be happy with any help.

Thanks for your input. This is my thought too, but i need to buy the software for my new computer and my local stores don't have 5.0 in stock anymore. SO i really need to see if 6.0 can still be used the same way for 5.0 without going through the learning curve all over again.

these aren't that great... nothing like what some of you guys can do! But i just purchased photoshop elements 6 and here's some of the 1st few images i edited...

I use PSE 6.0 too. Well done! There are so many cool gadgets...this is just the beginning. :)

What method did you use on the B&W coversion on the first photo? Did you just desaturate?

The reason I ask is the B&W portion does not have a lot of depth to it, there are other methods that will give you a lot more pop in the B&W.

Keep working at it, I have been messing around in photoshop for a couple of years now, and am still a rank amature.

for the 1st black and white one, i just messed around with the shadowing a bit, and then took it to black and white. I'm really just seeing what each button does at this point:)

would you be willing to list the steps you took for the b&w/color ones i cant seem to figure it out!

Sure! I would have never been able to figure it out either, had a VERY NICE guy from Best Buy not took almost an hour showing me how to use it a couple days ago:)

Once I got the picture up, I used the 'quick selection tool' from the far left menu on the side of the screen.

Then i basically just selected what I wanted to stay in COLOR. It's a really slick little button:) You kind of have to drag the mouse around your picture to select everything you want, but it's pretty easy:)

Then i right clicked on the picture and selected "select inverse"... this selects everything that you did NOT use the quick selection tool on.

From there, *if i wanted it in black and white* I went to the "Enhance" option up by file and such. I selected 'convert to black and white.... eveything besides what you selected should now be in black and white:)

Once i did that, then i started playing with shadowing and such by doing a little more under the 'enhance' menu from the top of the page:)

To get rid of the selctions you can right click on the image and select 'deselect'.

If you still have everthing inversivly selcted, that's when i also played around with the buttons on the right side of the page to add texture to the back such as the picture of the pirate at DTD and the pictures of Hollywood studios:)

That's what I did, so I hope it works for you:) Can you post the pic when you're done with it? I'd love to see how it works out for you!!!

Let me know if you have any questions:)

***Here's another image I did while getting the steps figured out... took me all of 2 minutes, maybe:)
