Finally had time to take some photos of my workstation in it's temporary home in the livingroom.
I designed my setup to use as much existing furniture as possible, so the only added cost was a sheet of birch faced plywood and a strip of 1 inch wide molding. I took the layout of the pieces to home Depot when I bought my plywood, and they cut them for me on their big saw, which facilitated moving it - much easier than lugging a 4x8 sheet.
My husband assembled the top with screws and nails, and put the finish on it. If I had it to do over, I might have put laminate on the top.
Here's the overview:
The black cabinets holding up the top are from IKEA and formerly held stereo components. As the audio system grew smaller with changing technology, they were not needed. When we move, they disassemble to a stack of flat pieces.
The left end:
The small drawer units hold punches, adhesives, colored pencils, etc. The striped boxes hold current projects (a christmas cookbook is in one, explaining the cookie books there.) The little red tool box holds my tool kit in the top, and brads, eyelets, buttons and glitter in lower sections.
The right end:
Top shelf - shoe boxes full of rubber stamps, card parts, die cuts and larger embellis, the cardboard boxes contain large scraps and 8 1/2 x 11 paper. middle shelf, same shoe boxes (they change places regularly) and pizza boxes of page protectors, and sheet stickers sorted by letters & words, and other. Not pretty but inexpensive, and it works. Bottom shelf - rarely used fiskars rotary cutter
Center sections, Left to right
Computer and most used pens
cutters and 18 inch steel ruler.
More pens, paint, and rolled ribbon
Underneath, a repurposed file cart holds Cropperhopper paper folders.
They're a pain because they don't stand up well, so I put bungy cords on both ends to provide firm holding power, and packed them in tight. They're sorted ROYGBIV, new collections, and Disney.
On the end is more ribbon storage, and a papertaker holding my CM cutting system.
The top is my cutting station, because it's lower than the worktop. (and recognize the top? It's a spare shelf from one of the end units!)
Finally, left of the workstation is a book case, another IKEA piece repurposed from another room when we downsized the library. The shelves hold stuff that doesn't fit anywhere else.
Top, photo packets and cricut carts. Middle, punches, stamps xyron, software & font cds. Bottom cricut mats, magazines & books, idea folders.
Today or tomorrow, we'll be taking it apart and moving it back into the kitchen, now that the renovation is complete. It's cozy and convenient in there, and there's a tv for the long dark evenings. I think in the spring, though, I'll move back to the livingroom, which we really use only at Christmas. The livingroom is cooler and I have more space. Either way, it's easy to move and takes about an hour until it's ready to work on again!
Thanks for visiting my space!
