Don't worry, we will!!! DH has tons of memory sticks for our digital camera and we're ready to shoot away. I'm so excited to take the first cruise on the Magic after all of the changes.

Thanks for sharing Andy - my dad is out in Norfolk as I type on vacation (I have an uncle out there) and I told him about it in case he got a chance to go see it. He apparently called last night while I was out and he did get to see the Magic across the Bay as he and my uncle were on a tour of the USS Wisconsin (I got this information from my daughter). I am hoping he also took pictures but I'm sure they aren't as close as these are. From what I can tell - the dry dock area is actually in Newport News but if that is wrong I apologize. I got that from my uncle who is a retired Navy Chief.

Andy,
Once again you came trough for all the DIS'ers. Great pictures.
I cann't wait for our 2005 cruise.(LOOOOOOOOOONG wait,but worth every penny)pirate:

I'm surprised that they "Lifted" the Magic up out of the water. I assumed she would sail into the dry dock and then they would pump the water out from where she sat.

Apparently it's a floating dry dock. They have this large structure which they fill with water and float underneath the Magic. Then they pump the water out of the structure, and it's buoyant enough to lift the Magic right out of the water. Similar to the giant floating drydock that they used to bring the USS Cole back to the U.S. after it was bombed in the Persian Gulf.

Here's the drydock company's page about the drydock. Note how they have two smaller ships in the same dock at the same time. I don't think you could get two Magics in there!

The dry dock pics were great. Thanks so much for the prompt request for the pictures. I'm very impressed with the helpfulness and support this forum gives to each other. The world could learn a few things! Keep up the good work!
