I'm an extremely amateur photographer with a Canon Digital Rebel Xsi. After a weekend trip, some pictures I could swear I took are just not on the camera. I'm pregnant and DH thinks I'm just experiencing what he likes to call 'baby brain suck.'

The shutter button will not depress if the lens cap is on or the camera is not on, so that's not it. Is it possible for a memory card to have some kind of problem that causes this? Or is my DH right?

Are we talking about a group of images or just a few scattered ones that you thought you took? And yes, cards can go bad, however usually it stops working completely or it physically breaks in some manner.

Its possible for memory cards to fail, or sometimes the camera can shut down before the FAT( "card catalog" ) gets updated, but the file is still there.

I would first see if your memory card maker has a file recovery tool to download. If not, I would use Recuva to do a full scan for missing files.

Thank you! I will try that...

It's a group of images, but in the middle of the day, not the beginning or end.

Once you solve your issue, and saved all your photos to your computer, format the card with your camera. That will make sure the card and camera are speaking the same language. But ultimately, if the card was the issue, (and not your brain) you should get a new card. You don't want to take a chance and lose more photos.

Are you trying to download them with the camera connected to the computer or are you using a card reader? If you're not using a card reader try one, it sometimes does the trick.
