With all of the characters on the course, will there be Photopass photographers as well? I'd like to have some shots but won't have any family with me.

Disney has a race photographer (Brightroom) at all races for the weekend. Their main focus is candid race shots at various spots on course.

Recently, Brightroom has started stationing photographers at various character spots along the course. These are not associated with the Photopass system. A few days post race you will receive an email from Brightroom noting the photo proofs are up for review. Take time and go through the lost and found photos to look for those where your bib number was not visible and have BR include those. The best deal for your $$ is then the electronic package…. Assuming you have 5-6 photos worth keeping.

Finally, bring your own camera. The way the character photo spots work is that you stop and wait in a fairly short line (most characters). Once its you turn, hand your camera to the character handler and they will snap off your photo. At the same time, BR will also take a photo. Many folks find that the handler photos are just as good if not better than the BR character photos…

This!

I had a few photos with characters in my BR proofs. I just handed my iPhone to the character handler and they took photos. I had 1 that was a bit blurry, but the rest were good, even with the quick hand offs.

Thanks so much for the info, both of you! Being a first-timer, I guess I was naively thinking I might be able to leave my phone behind. So I guess this begs the question: exactly what DO you take with you? And what is the easiest way to carry it?

I took my camera during this year's Goofy marathon, since I was injured and knew I would stop for photos. It's a little point and shoot Canon. I run with Nathan hydration belt that has a little pocket (an oldy but a goody) and I just stuffed it in there. I should say that I ALWAYS run 1/2's or longer with a belt because that is part of my fuel/hydration race strategy. A phone camera would work fine, too. The CM will work with what you have.

What you use during the race will depend on your fuel/liquid strategy. If you don't plan to run with water or fuel, there are other options--Spibelts are one example, using a hydration belt without the bottles is another. Some people run in shorts or skirts that have pockets--you could do that as well.

Whatever you do, make sure you try it out beforehand. You want to make sure you're comfortable with it.

Thanks for the advice - I'll check it out. :goodvibes

I run with a cheap fanny pack... but I also do not carry a carmera. I should one year.

Brightrooms photos are extremely expensive! About 25 a piece!! I waited months for a deal for my everest photos. 3 digitals and a print were almost $60. Bring your own camera.

If the photos are important to you, TAKE YOUR OWN CAMERA! I carried a small point-and-shoot with me for Goofy this year and got great photos. I was not impressed with Brightroom/Marathonfoto's quality and prices. If I'd just depended on them for my photos I would have been really disappointed.

BRING YOU OWN POINT AND SHOT CAMERA OR IPHONE!

I have gotten very few Brightroom/Marathonfoto pictures that were worth what they charge. I mean VERY FEW.

I tend to carry my camera in my hand quite a bit. I use a spibelt. I carry very little, camera, key to my room and a pack of stinger chews or sports beans.

This is not an exaggeration! I bought one photo of myself from the marathon this year - it was a candid and the photographer happened to get me with a pretty hilarious expression. Both husband and I agreed it was a keeper but I sort of still can't believe I spent $25 on one photo download.

Also...they missed me crossing the finish line at all 3 races I ran (the 5K, half and full). So if that's one you want you may want to position a family member at the finish with a camera, or make sure to actually seek out a MarathonFoto/Brightroom photog when you're about to finish. But you'll probably be distracted by...you know...finishing.

Lastly, be prepared for weeks of emails from MarathonFoto offering you deals and telling you your photos will expire soon. I am still getting emails from them about photos from a race I ran on May 18. It's pretty annoying.

I also run most of the time with a fanny pack. Mine is large and hunter orange (picked it up cheap after hunting season). I also have a Spibelt I use on race days when I'm fairly confident of the hydration situation.

DH just bought me an Amphipod RunLite 4 for my birthday. Not sure I'd want to carry the water bottles during the race (assuming that plenty is provided along the route), but I like that it has a place to keep my phone and small stuff. I looked at the SPIbelts, too - both seem like good options.

Thanks for the advice! :thumbsup2
