We just disembarked from the Double Dip Halloween cruise (it was fun, but the weather/seas were horrible for the first four days), and I have some news. This is straight from the Shutters staff who I talked to on Friday PM - Photopass will be available within two weeks. It will be for the onboard photos only, beach photos will have to wait - they are trying out some facial recognition software in the future for this.
Hopefully someone can give a fuller report on this in the next two weeks or so.

GREAT NEWS........

Thank you for letting us know, I knew it was in development and it will be soooo useful and good for the environment, less waste, less paper used, and more easy to find thoose photos, I would have thought they would use our KTTW Cards rather than some facial recognition software though.

Yes, wonderful news. They really needed it. The next thing is then... what will become the Shutters area of the ship??

That wouldnt change the 'area' they have at all, you would have terminals there to view your pictures, they still would put up there 'example photo' ones for the ship and characters etc, and you still would buy your photos there, maybe a slight rearrangement but you wouldnt loose shutters.

Maybe less shleves for the photos, as said by OP, Beach ones will still stay on the current system.

I know they will have plans this has been considered for a long time now and I have posted that fact on many threads, the surprise is, it wasnt added in on the dry dock. But the TV's in the stateroom where a clue to future development.

I'm sure they are using either your KTTW card or a photopass card for the onboard photos. From what I gathered, the facial recog. software was for the beach only photos.
I agree with the waste, they had tons of leftover pictures on Friday. Less ink, less paper, less energy, and less having to sort thru hundreds of photos to find the FIVE we purchased this last cruise (we didn't do any character photos).

Great to hear! My next cruise isn't for almost two years so maybe they'll have all the bugs out by then...:rotfl:

Also, trying to walk through that area towards the end of a cruise is a nightmare. Hopefully with the Photopass, they'll be able to make that area a little more suitable more walking traffic. I figured Shutters would still be there, but not have the need to take up so much room.

Thank you so much for posting this so quickly after your cruise, I have always said this would enhance the experience for everyone, as well as cutting waste so more environmentally friendly, you will be able to find your photos far easier, and I think they will increase sales, I know I have 'lost' about 3>4 photos each cruise never to be seen on the shelves maybe someone else takes them?? But the easier to find the photos the easier to purchase them.

I agree that area gets so crowded, the only issue is they will need quite a few terminals so everyone can see theirs, thats why I think the Stateroom TV upgrade is linked to this! That might not occur 'immediately' but the TV's are there now for future upgrades

There has been the odd person who has posted on photo-pass threads saying this cannot happen due to 'contract' issues, but they have jointly worked on this for a long time and have a full roll out plan.

N/P, we're at the airport waiting for our flight. Gotta find something to do to keep busy :)

I totally agree about the lost photos issue. If you HAVE to find that one picture you need, be prepared to go thru TONS of tiny proof pictures (and even then you may not find it). I think they'll sell more photos this way - how may people don't buy them just because they don't want to have to deal with finding them/fighting the crowds/etc.

Sonny I agree, the 15 night cruise was a nightmare to find photos I know more were taken of us in the Canal itself but only found 1 photo of at least 5.

Thanks for sharing the news so quickly, Sonny! I hope you enjoyed the 2 days at CC as we did on our 7 night Double Dip last month!

I have a theory on a potential reason for the delay in the CC beach photos. Being CC is typically scheduled to be on the last day of the cruise, until they figure this all out, it would make it extremely difficult to get guests back on-board, view their photos from that day, order their picture, and wait for it to be printed. All of that on top of taking care of all the other last night activities that keep you so busy doesn't sound fun. It would be easier to have those photos already printed for a "pick-up and go" convenience.

I don't want to assume that this will be exactly like what is offered at the parks then get disappointed, so I'm throwing out my wishes! The two things most important to me is that that they offer the pics on a CD just like the parks' PhotoPass options and we have the option to select the photo's size!!

Indeed it would be ideal to be able to access your photo viewing from the comfort of your room! Fingers crossed!

Finally! This was on everyone wish list for DCL I never understood why it took so long.

Wouldn't a CD complete package you could purchase from home be terrific!

CD of all cruise would be great, lso ( in the future ) view in your room ,order from your room, and delived to you either as CD or on old paper.

photopass will be great. hopefully though the pictures still turn out good for me:lmao:, the two times I used photopass in wdw, I hated my pictures, but photopass is a good way, so hopefully pictures come out great on the cruise and not like my ones in wdw or i'll be richer, if they come out great I'll be broke since I'm doing a b2b:lmao:

I wonder if the photopass terminals can take off the 'Cruise Flab'?:rotfl: :rotfl:

When we cruised 2 weeks ago they had a team onboard who all week would be working on different koisks that they were setting up. There were two at the bottom of the stairs (from the back door of Stuido Sea down to Deck 3) and they had a few in the outer area of Shutter (between shutters and Stuidio sea). Not sure if they will stay in those place but they we saw them all week working on them. The kiosks also looked like they might accept your digital memory card, but hard to be sure as they were in different stages of completion.

Parag, Shutters Manager on the Wonder, and I had a talk about the new machines. Here's the information on them:

1. They will NOT replace the pictures in Shutters, all the pictures in Shutters will still be up.

2. The Photo Kiosks are on deck 3 and 4 on both the Wonder and the Magic. On deck 3 they are where the gingerbread house usually goes during Christmas, so the gingerbread house will be moved. There is one kiosk that is wheelchair friendly on deck 3, the other on deck three is triangular in shape with three viewing sides. They are both right by the staircase. The others are right above on deck 4 right outside Studio Sea at that end of the staircase. The live date is November 2nd although Parag said they might do a soft open on the prior cruise.

3. Yes, there are places on the kiosks for your memory cards, etc., but they will NOT be functional in phase 1 of the rollout for the kiosk machines.

4. You will use your KTTW card (just like photopass) when getting your pictures taken. Then when you get to the photo kiosk you will insert your KTTW card to look at your pictures. You can order your pictures right from the kiosk and not go looking for them on the wall, but they will still be up in Shutters on the wall. When you order your pictures, it will print a receipt, but you will NOT be charged for the pictures until you pick them up from Shutters.

5. Once you disembark the ship, the photos will NOT be available anymore, you will not be able to access them once you get home, unlike photopass.

Hope that clears up some of the questions.
