Photopass in DLR

I have searched and searched and want to make sure I am not missing anything. Do I see correctly that the only way to get the Photopass "package" in DLR is to be an AP holder? In other words, there is not an option to purchase the PP for your visit outside of upgrading to an AP/PAP?

So, the only option for us is to buy the photos individually that we may want?

You can buy a 'One Day Photopass' - either before you go, or after you return. It gives you all the photos from one day of your trip and costs $39. But there is no option for a multi day photopass. : (

That is so disappointing. Seems like that would be a cash cow for Disneyland Park.

They used to have the deal of $69. pre purchase or $99 in the park for the duration of your trip.. but approx. a month ago stopped that offer and changed it to this new horrible "deal" the people that are regulars that would buy it are not happy about it at all..

as for the AP deal its upper level of AP that get the photo pass + which also sucks..

It really is. If you feel like writing to express your disappointment to Disney that'day be great. Probably won't make a difference but we are hoping that if enough people write they'll reconsider!

I am so disappointed about the one day. I used to get PP+ every time we went. I'm thinking that I will have to forgo it this year. $40 per day is near $60 per day for us with the exchange rate...and for 5 days that adds up fast.

Yes, I'm disappointed too, coming from Australia the previous photo passes were great, there's no way I'll be purchasing the new passes

Beejai, I totally agree. Normally I just lump it and pay the extra (after all, when we are flying all the way from Aussieland, it doesn't add that much to the over all price), but my hubby is totally bulking at this price. Looks like this Oct will be photopass free.

I did just send an email in to Disneyland to see what they have to say about the product. If enough of us tell them how very disappointed we are, they might do something about it. maybe...

I totally agree, and our trip this fall will likely be photopass free for the very first time ever. I would buy one photo in front of the castle, but without borders what's the point? I don't get it. At least when things skyrocket like this, they at least PRETEND to be giving us more. They didn't even try with this.

So, Disney got back to me about the photopass issue. It was the normal form letter that you get from them in general. The big 'adds' to the now very expensive product:
1. unlimited downloads (for a price of only $39 per day!)
2. available to purchase at Disneyland.com (because of the complaints of no pre-purchase more than likely), through the Disneyland mobile app, and at Disneyland PhotoPass Sales Centers.
3. you get all of the photos taken by the PhotoPass Photogs, Ride Photos, and Dining Photos (funny that I recall that being the exact same product as before).
4. you can download, view, and share your photos from the app (if you have purchased the product for that day...).

So, I guess that we are meant to get all excited that we can use the Disneyland app to do what I would do on my phone's web package before, because the first three items don't seem to have changed all that much.

Now for the part of the email that I found most interesting:

They value my feedback and they appreciate the time I took to contact them. They are always reviewing products to 'enhance our services to provide new functionality, products, etc. so your experience is always positive.' Well, they failed in this case. They did not mention the functionality that they removed.

I have also been informed that, 'at this time there is no plan to bring back the Disney PhotoPass+ which was our multi day product.' But that I should be aware that their 'prices and promotions are subject to change at anytime.' They also suggested that I have a look closer to my holiday to see what is available then. When will Disneyland understand that some people plan their Disneyland vacation for months and months and need to budget everything so that they can make it there?

Anyway, my big question is does this mean that it could get worse? I guess it will depend on how many people stop purchasing the 'package' and just have the photogs use their private cameras (and how backed up the lines get because of it). Of course, they may just instruct the Cast Members to refuse to use private cameras... that should thin the lines to nothing but the VIPs on site, oh, and people with top end annual passes....

Out of interest, how many of you remember when PhotoPass first started? I do. Their was no package price. Everything was single purchase from the shops or on-line. The first time I used it was in 2005. My family and I did a huge Disney vacation (WDW, Disney Cruise Line, and Disneyland). I purchased two photos (both from the cruise line) because, after spending well over $30,000, we didn't have the spare cash to spend hundreds on photos. It was heart breaking to see all those cute photos of my then 6 year old enjoying Disney...but I did get two cute photos of the family together. When I went to Disneyland the next time, we were able to get the photopass + option. I was thrilled. I have some great photos too. And that has encourage me to purchase photopass + and Memory maker (at WDW) each time since.

I guess that I should step down off the soap box. I appreciate being able to vent to people who might understand. lol

All I guess I can say is that we should all email in about our disappointment in the new product. Disney might just listen...maybe bring back the boarders and stickers? Who knows.

I am a huge photopass fan and my house is decorated with pictures of my family growing up in front of the "castle" year after year from WDW to Disney Paris. This will be our first trip as a whole family to DLR, I'm arriving this week and at 39.00 per day....this year, I think we will be foregoing the castle picture and the many, many pictures I have scrap booked over the years. It's too bad they changed the product offering. It was always such a nice add on...

For me, they have priced theselves out of the market.

Thanks for taking the time to email and to share the response!

I actually toyed with the idea of buying a day or two worth of photos on our next trip..... until I saw the borders were gone.

I honestly don't care if they do something to make the product worse now. They already hit my "won't buy" point, so being further past that point won't make a difference. And that's from a diehard Disney photo fan. This will be our very first trip since Photopass was introduced that we won't be buying it.

I loved PhotoPass as well. I have recommended it hundreds of times to friends and family. Now, I won't be doing that either. I guess that I will be bringing the DSLR with me this trip. lol

I bring the DSLR anyway, so I probably won't miss it. I'll still be waiting in their lines to have their staff take our photo with my camera. But I will miss having a few shots with cute borders and years on them.

It's the same here, sprmom. It would be over $200 US for my upcoming holiday. And this is a cost I can't explain. So, no photopass. Take your own camera and have the photographers take the photos you want of the family on that. At least you will still be able to continue your photographic collection.

What a huge disappointment! My daughter and I are going for the first time in April. It would be nice to have photos of us together instead of individually, but $39 per DAY is just insane. I'll stick with asking strangers and the photo pass photographers to take our picture. I'm guessing they'll soon tell photographers to stop taking pictures with guests cameras.

I haven't used PhotoPass at Disneyland yet, but I'm thinking that we'll just plan to do one day with PhotoPass - either the first or last. At DW, I take the most pictures on those days. Disney would make more money off me if they had a multi-day option though.

Wow, I came here to see what was up with the photopass site! I'm surprised they discontinued the $69 package...I've bought that 3 times. I guess we will skip it this time. I suppose maybe if we spent one day to get all our photopass pictures done I would shell out $39, but definitely not for multiple days.

Could it be because lots of locals just go for one day and wouldn't pay $69? I guess we will do our own pictures.

We are only going for one day, so I think I will pay the $39 and try to get as many pictures as possible. I can't find the link to pre-purchase. I went to Disney.com and clicked photopass, but that was to look up pictures already taken. What am I doing wrong? How can I pre-purchase?

Port Mom, it's not easy to get to the pre-purchase page. You need to go on to Disneyland.com and then look for photopass. If you have the app, you can buy it though the app and you can purchase it at the parks for the same price as at home. I don't think that they want to make it easy to pre-purchase....
