I will share our experience we had 2 weeks ago (March 23-24, 2016) with the new Photopass...
Because I had previously purchased and used Photopass+ heavily in all my trips to WDW and DLR, I was hugely disappointed in the newest "pay 39.00 for each day" version that it currently offered. I went to the parks with the mindset of "let's see how good these pics will be, because I really don't want to spend 39.00 each day, but I don't want to carry around my big camera, either"......
The Photopass photographers took our pics with their camera and my phone (their pics turned out better), and gave me a Photopass card or offered to scan the Photopass app on my phone (I used the plastic card method). We snapped pics of the ride photos with our phones to record the ride number.
I did not opt buy the package ahead of time, but I had downloaded the Disneyland app and would load the Photopass card #s/ride photo #s into the app at night in the hotel room (it would have sucked too much data for me to do it while in the parks). I could then see all of my ride/special location photos on the app with the Photopass watermark across each photo. I knew right then and there that Disney had my money--the pics were good/funny/memorable...I had to have them! (And, yes, I bought 2 x 39.00 when I got home)
As for locations of photographers/magical shots/60th anniversay special shots.......I personally found fewer photographers in the parks compared with our last trip in July 2015. It was hit or miss finding one in front of the Cars Land sign or the bridge to Paradise Pier. I never saw one on the main drag of Cars Land or on Mainstreet of Disneyland like I had in July. I was never offered to do a Magic Shot this trip, but to be honest, I never asked about it...
They still have their special 60th anniversary photo opportunities (Paradise Pier, Bug's Land, Haunted Mansion, Matterhorn, etc) and these end up being "animated" on your Photopass account. For example, at the Haunted Mansion one, your heads become "grinning ghosts" while a pair of dancing ghosts float across your picture, with music. It is fun and different and I supppose this is all taking the place of adding borders to all of your pics in the previous Photopass version...
All in all, I am happy with the pictures, not happy with the pricing, and am not sure what I would do if I were in the parks 3 days or more....
(one word of warning---the Photopass site was only taking Credit/Debit cards as payment---no Disney Gift Cards or Disney Visa Rewards Redemption cards....)
