Photopass at new price... worth it?

ummmm to answer OP,no I think it's horrible value. I never go on vacation without at least one camera, between the fam we have more than that....since it costs virtually noting to take 1000 photos of my fam, what would justify the cost of a photopass cd?
I even hand it to the photopass photogs who will snap our pic too:confused3 then when I get home I burn it on a cd...cost is less than 5.00....FWIW,in the past we did a 'share' stopped at every pp to get pics taken,my fam hated it,and eventually refused to waste any more time getting pictures....and none of them were great...just cute pictures....like I get with my own camera!

Hopefully the new Photopass + won't sell and Disney will retreat. I doubt it, though. Some people will buy it whatever it costs.

Basically, they just add in the ride photos and certain dining photos to your Photopass account, and you get a book. Pass.

Also, the $20 price increase to $119.95 is a terrible idea. My wife is a huge photo person, and even she is frustrated at the price increase. At $99.95, we would begrudgingly pay and get it. But now, we might pass.

First off, you don't automatically get the book. The $199.95 cost gives you the ride and dining pictures, the special card/lanyard, and a code to redeem for a photopass cd.

The $20 increase is a brilliant move on Disney's part. Ignore the pre-visit offer, and look instead at the cost of buying at the parks/after the fact. That's now up to $169.95. Which is now just $30 less than the PhotoPass+ cost. So imagine how much easier it is to upsell. For just $30 more, you can add all these ride pictures to your cd. Those are $15 a pop (or whatever it is) so its a huge savings.

Having never actually bought a ride photo, I will most likely be paying the full price for the next trip just to get all the ride photos at least once.

Remember that WDW doesn't promote everything to people who make multiple trips. Lots of people on the Dis make multiple trips, maybe even multiple trips per year. So to them, having lots of shots of the castle, meeting Mickey etc isn't as important to them as someone who only gets down every 5-10 years, or even just once in a lifetime. Those are the people that Disney wants to sell the PhotoPass+ to.

It can be worth the price, because to me some pictures are just worth it and I know they catch some great ones of us. I let them use my camera and their camera and always look online to see if I like the disney pic better.

Way back in the ice age there used to be photopass "share" groups, even had threads here on the DIS. That is no more, but if you happen to know of that alternate universe called facebook, this type of sharing still happens there....

Basically you share the cost with a few families who are going to the World around the same time you are, and the leader mails you a CD of all of your photos. If you only had to pay a fraction of the price, you wouldn't have to worry about getting a zillion pictures to choose from. At least, that is the theory....I have always done a share and I am still obsessed with getting 58409275348925489203 pictures....:rotfl2:

yes do a photopass share, i did one for my last trip and im running on our sept 2012 DISers facebook group for our upcoming trip.

do a share! I ran a share 3 yrs ago and we all paid $15 for our photopass discs

The shares can be found on facebook now because the Dis didn't want any money transactions here. Do a search here for more info on finding one ! As for the pics--we did not have many(maybe 3) with characters BUT the family and candid shots around the parks are SO crisp and clear they are by FAR my favs of the trip! you get the disc and use whoever to print(I do snapfish) at .09 a print.Have fun!

yes what she said, there are 6 of us sharing a photopass and we are each paying $20, and that includes everything everything! way better than $99! (since i pre-ordered before the prices went up)

It took a few tries, but found a share to jump into, very cool, thanks for the great advice everyone!

when we didregular photopass, all the kids (one famiy group) had wrist cards they used to take pictures and then i was able to put the all on our cd.
are you saying with the plus we'll only have one card? there's 7 of us and we're hardly ever in the same place. i understand only one number for the dining photos but the general ones?
thanks

You can add multiple cards to your account with the Photopass plus, you just can't get multiple plus cards.

Please forgive me if this sounds stupid. I never buy the cd. I use my camara for pics and buy a few that were on photo pass. Can I still do this Or do I have to buy the cd? :confused3

Just a thought. Last time we went (family of 4 adults) we decided to do the photos they do at resorts. I am not sure of all the resorts that do this but we had them done at the Beach Club. You call and set up a time. A professional photographer will meet with you and photograph your family around the resort. They said it was an hour but I know it must have been 2 hours. The price I think (and I don't remember exactly) was $100 (it was in 2009) and about 50 pictures. That was the best $100 I pent. The pictures were grew. I would so it again in a heartbeat. O.K just looks this up. The cost is now $150 for 20 minutes. But I have to tell you the pictures are great.
