Hello experts :wave2:

I am interested in taking a quick beginners photography class. Just something simple to teach me the basic use of settings, etc. I was hoping for something with maybe 2 or 3 evening classes....not an entire semester.

Any idea where I should start looking? I checked the local community college & didn't really see much there :confused3

Most community colleges should have something. Surprised that didn't work out.

I've taken two classes. One offered by the local parks department. And the other offered by a local camera store. The first one was interesting, but I had already learned most of it from Bryan Peterson's Understanding Exposure. The camera store was mostly a three hour sales pitch for OCF equipment.

You can probably learn most of the basics on-line. The great part is it's free and you can anonymously ask all the dumb questions you want in forums like this. :)

I took an online class and enjoyed it. It was at ed2go.com. Click on course catalog, then personal enrichment. The name of it was Secrets to Better Photography. I learned alot and it was flexible since it was online.

Hope this helps!

Contact your local Ritz of Wolf Camera. They usually offer a one day class. Also check your local camera shop. Do a search on Flikr and see if there is a photography group in your area!

Our local Penn Camera store gives beginner classes. Not sure what the cost is.

I'm going to be conducting some local classes. You're welcome to join us.

I'll be teaching:

1) Camera fundamentals - Aperture, shutter speed, ISO, focal length, how AF works

2) Taking better pictures - Composition, lighting, perspective, shooting angles

The first class is geared towards DSLR users that want to learn to work their cameras better. It is focused on the technical aspects of photography. The second class is geared towards anyone with any camera that wants to learn what makes a better picture.

I'm thinking about making short video versions of each topic and posting them online.

I took a couple classes with ed2go and though it was a very good way to learn, especially if there are no local classes available.

So your talking about teaching the class online? Because I was going to head to my parents in Katy and then attend one of your classes. You are always so helpful.
