it is happening a lot, I saw a thread about it on another section of the dis,

I wouldn't be surprised if it is due to the bandwidth being used by all the pics we post

Seriously: this is crimping my style and actually forcing me to do work instead of sitting in my office, surfing the DIS boards. I'm not amused.

Yeah what I think is happening is now that its entering main vacation season for families more are showing up now to do research. Also school is out so you have more youngins with too much time on there hands...lol

If the images we post are hosted elsewhere we do not use up bandwidth from the DISserver, our browser is directed to the hosting site and leeches off that server with no adverse effects on the DISserver.

I'm no computer expert, but if you are correct, then why did they make a big deal months ago about the size of pics in signatures, because of it eating up band width and slowing down the dis....???

Because ALL OF THE DATA still has to be downloaded for the page to open, regardless of where that data(images) is hosted.

Not everyone has high speed internet.

I'm well aware of that,

but it was the disgods, that set the rules, and as I recall it was because the pics were slowing down the server...

That is to address those who do not like to scroll too much to roll past a large signature. As to the application of the rule, it is very hit and miss and arbitrary from what I have seen.

The servers are being a little stressed right now and it is not a result of the pictures being posted to the board. The boards are becoming more popular with each passing day and the number of posts are increasing in a nonlinear fashion. The Webmasters are working to identify potential solutions to resolve the "server busy" errors but in the meantime they are asking for your patience while they attempt to identify the root cause and a solution.
